No more Turnigy motors by Hobbyking?

Over last time I noticed more and more Turnigy motors in back order. Yesterday I was buying stuff from hobbyking and have not found any I have ever bought or considered to buy Turnigy motor in stock, they still few crappy turnigys there (I think nobody wants them).
Are they discontinuing Turnigy, since stocked Scorpion motors?

Keep in mind..

"Turnigy" is just relabeled stuff from other manufacturers.
Sometimes it is even factory defect / B grade parts.

The gold cans were pretty hit and miss in terms of quality, these motors may be worth it; still much cheaper than an astro or other brand motor.

Now imagine what a really powerful and large low kv motor will cost if 5.4kw 500kv is 399U$. Before it was a toy, now it is investment. I better invest somewhere else. They lost me on this one.

Miles, i followed your links and read complete posts.
In May 26 was told by Anthony_Hand who is ADMIN status "SK3's will start to roll in, in around 3 weeks."
I do not remember well, but I think end of May is when the bigger Scorpions came in sale. Naturally if now after 2 months is nothing else in the list my brain concludes SK3=Scorpion. Hope I am wrong on this conclusion. Please tell me I am. :?

Well, that's not my interpretation..... AFAIK, SK3 = revamped Turnigy SK series (presumably equivalent sizes). NTM = new series, including larger stator sizes.

Also, the new NTM 45, 50, 55, 65 + series will start to land in late June.

I bought a similar motor for my custom electric scooter a while ago, it was great, it was just a lower Kv twin of this, ran well at 22.2v and 44.4v and worked well after I put sensors in it. It has taken a lot of physical abuse and still works. These are old motors though, and once they are all sold they will NOT be restocked.

Just my 2 cents on them for anyone wanting a bit more info.

I know I saw another thread about Hobby King being back ordered on all of their big outrunners but I can't find it.

Anyone know what is going on? I heard they were coming out with a new line of motors but it doesn't make sense that they no longer stock other brands like Towerpro.

I have a couple of spare motors for myself but I hate to think this supplier of cheap motors is throwing in the towel.

I am also surprised that they have been back-ordered for so long. I do understand the sudden interest in the 80-100, it was the motor that won the Tucson Deathrace. ES has many more lurkers than posters. also, there are many garage experimenters that do not read or post on ES, but want to play around with these motors, as they have been featured on many You-Tubes.

For myself, if I was to build an E-kit for sale, it would be a BB-drive (think Cyclone) based on the 80-85 motor. It's worth the $100 HK price just for the can+magnets, shaft, and stator laminations. I would pull them apart, fill with epoxy between the magnets, upgrade the two bearings, and re-wind per Thuds tutorial to a low kV, and add external optical sensors, using a 6-FET from Lyen...

If I were to take a wild guess, I would say he is waiting on magnet price stabilization before re-voltage pricing all the motors and re- ordering them. I bet there is $80 of Nd in the 80-100.

Its possible he is boycotting buying at the newly tripled prices for Nd as a way of putting pressure on the industry. Like the opposite of voting with your dollar.

Try a 6 fold increase in rare earth magnets since earlier on this year AFAIK. Somehow, whilst Mr. HobbyKing may be a big deal in RC motors, I can't think his boycotting will have much effect in the scheme of things. The whole world is being held to ransom when it comes to rare earths, they are still being sold at their greatly increased price level. Unfortunately, I think everyone is just gonna have to get used to higher magnet pricing and therefore increased motor pricing for the foreseeable future IMO. I'm sure something good will come of it 1 way or another.

Is it a result of the surge in EV production, motors, battery 's etc ?
or is it a genuine shortage of RE's,

The price hikes originate due to restrictions by the Chinese Government. Initially I believed that it was profit led, but I'm not so sure, I believe there is a genuine shortage of these resources, who knows....

IMO these materials had probably been too cheap for too long and were being used wastefully. Hopefully this re-adjustment of pricing will result in new sources for these materials coming on line and dilute the almost complete dependence on China for these vital materials. The price hike has hit a lot of motor manufacturers in China very hard, lots have gone under so I'm told.

Wow, I was googling around the web reading some more. It really sucks... You just can't win. You try to stop being quite so dependent on oil by switching partially over to electric and now we have a "shortage" of rare earth magnets. It's always something.
