Just wondering if this is worth getting and taking the batteries out to make up a pack. I don't know too much about all this battery stuff but it's on sale for $329 and seems to have good long lasting power from what I read on the site.
Am I way out in left field? I'd like to go to 36 volts on an IZIP (24 volts).
Thanks.

I think I've given up on this electric stuff anyhow. This morning I ordered one of those 80cc engine kits. Had one before, paid $200 and drove it for 15 months of totaly trouble free pleasure before selling it. I'm going to build a hybred out of my Izip. There is a kit out now that uses a jack shaft , bringing your chain over to the right side of the bike The kit also comes with with a freewheel. It allows you to use your rear gears and will allow me to keep the chain setup from the electric Izip original. Why all of you spend thousands on these "drive for one hour-wait for it to charge for six hours" toys is beyond me. I won't even get into the winter and batteries . This is my only form of transportation and I live in farm country.

You must admit, this is interesting. The engine and jackshaft can be had for $400 total and you can go ride all day and still get back home.

There are cons and pros to both sides. Generally, electric systems can be cheaper to operate, quieter, less smelly, less conspicuous and more environmentally friendly but gas systems seem to have the edge on over-all cost effectiveness and reliability at this point.

For me, it was the quieter/less smelly/less-conspicuous/learning factor that made me choose electric systems(Although... I didn't really have any knowledge of gas-kits for bicycles at the time; I thought my only alternatives at the time was a moped, motorcycle or car, which seemed to be equally if not more expensive. And registration and insurance, uggg, who wants to be bound by that?).

I rode one of those gassers, and it vibrated so bad it gave me numb nuts. Blew another one off the trail with my 36v bike last summer. I'm not impressed with them. But my wifes 150cc scooter was a bargain, used at $750. But I still like the ebike best, I still like to peadle hard.
