Hello,

I am ordering 4 x 6s Zippy Flightmax 5000mah 40C LiPo batteries from someone in the UK.

I have tried FedEx, UPS, and DHL (as far as I know, these are the only services available to ship bike sized boxes from UK to Canada). None of these service providers are allowing me to ship these batteries, whether they are boxed individually or with the bike, because the total Wh rating of the batteries is >100Wh.....

They are telling me that the shipper needs to be a certified dangerous goods specialist to sign off on the validity of contents/dangerous goods (LiPo batteries in this case, 440Wh rating total)

Does this mean that no one can sell and ship an ebike with batteries (as eBike batteries are nearly always, if not always, going to be over 100Wh...)?! This makes no sense!!

Mostly thanks to hoverboards, battery shipping just got a lot tougher worldwide... the ones that come to our shop all have signed paperwork, and it's hard for us to send batteries back. Annoying as it is, it would suck to be the one that had the battery you just bought bring down a plane or something.

I am running into this exact problem. I looked at how to take stuff on a plane and even that is not clear. Segway and hoverboards banned. On BA you can carry 4 x <100wh in carry on allegedly and 2 x < 160wh carry on. Other airline have a flat out ban. You still need to get past airport security.

For couriers, have you tried TNT? They ship dangerous goods but at a premium price. That doesn't work for me as Egypt will not allow any dangerous goods into the country via courier! Bugger!

If you can use TNT may be worth looking at splitting the delivery into the bike and the battery and only paying the premium on the battery, although I have read somewhere that there is a price break around 20kg for battery stuff so would be worth looking at the various permutations.

It's impossible to tell until I can get a shipping quote.

Regarding the product cost part of that comparison, these batteries are costing me about 150$ CAD, or 650$ CAD retail. I doubt the shipping will make buying them retail a cheaper option.

Get ready for all the UK folk asking for a bit of that action...lol

Haha I'm sure they would go for more than $150, but if I told the seller I'm not taking the batteries with the bike because it will cost too much to ship I doubt I would get any more than 150$ off the total

Not economically possible to ship that battery. In any case, used batteries are worth zero dollars, so if he knocks off $150, SWEET!
