Finished off my windscreen struts and worked out a camera mount today. I turned the current adjuster up a little and peak wattage hit 7430W on the DrainBrain. Around 1:30 where I leave the stoplight, you can see the whole bike lifts up on the front shock at full throttle 8)
At 2:40 you can hear the freewheel clicking noticeably, but other than the motor resonance at 40km/h, it's pretty quiet compared to anything chain driven.

Top speed was down a little due to the camera forcing me to sit more upright than normal.

The Google Video quality seems worse to me.

How do you keep your front wheel steady? At just 35 mph, my front wheel displays a slight urge to waver when I turn and especially when I go over bumps.

As for wavering, do you mean head shake? What's the weight distribution like on your bike? Front and rear tire pressures? Compression and rebound damping settings? Try shaking the bike side to side by the seatpost and see if anything resonates. Rear racks are notoriously flexy and can induce wobbles. Try putting your front fork on lockout and strapping it down to minimum travel to see if you have a front end flex issue.

It certainly moves that bike does!! I havent run the X5 at that kind of voltage yet, now my lipos have been modified I will be able to run it at 120V. The little fairing looks great and I should think it helping quite a bit.

The thing I like about this next to systems with multiple gears is exactly that, you can just open the throttle and get your head down, this is esp a factor if you have a lot of starting and stopping in traffic on roads like yours.

Cracking video, I coulndt quite read the drain brain figures as it seemed to have a reflection on the screen, but I could tell you were going very quick indeed.

Have you ever had any trouble with the police? when I go out on my rides at 72V none of my normal bike gearing can keep up, If I stop peddling I feel conscious to the point where I often just spin my legs a little to avoid attracting attention.

The X5 series motor are hard to beat for real high speed stuff, I still think they are more of an electric motorcycle wheel than a true PA wheel, the Puma is a PA wheel, outright as its light and powerful, the X5 is a beefy monster.

This video demonstrates the flat land speed, now we need to see a hill climb on it, I will do the same for the Puma I will take it up sunrising hill and see how it fares (20%) @72V.

Yes looking forward to that, tucking in nice and tight behind the screen should help you big time and I agree this X5 is very quick but it is really an electric motorcycle!! when all said and done, I am sure your motor would pick up quicker however he has a significant weight advantage.

I like the X5 motors if you feed enough in to them they are unbeatable, however for power assisters I think the Puma is a better bet as its so much lighter and can run nicely on just 37V 20A or so, it all depends what you want!

I am going to run my X5 in another bike! thats the next project going to start it in a few days now I have 72V reliable power source and a reliable controller i can play big time!

Looking forward to seeing the shots of the bike with the new fairing, the weather has picked up here, I am going to go and see Steve Head as soon as the weather goes summer! will take the KMX and the BMX and maybe the Raleigh!

Doing this kind of "front forward" camera videos myself, it sounds like a lot of headwind was encountered, which is even that much more impressive to me since I know how much head wind saps your speed.

Around 3kW at 80+km/h is correct. NiMH voltage sag and back emf conspire to reduce power output. I'm expecting a large increase in power above 80km/h when I put the Emoli's on.

I agree that the X5 is VERY over built for a power assist bike!

As for police, never had a problem and even stopped to chat on two occasions. One was a drunk driving road block and the other a speed trap on the corner of my block. Also in the video after the second right turn, an undercover cop in an SUV goes the other way and I made eye contact with the driver. Basically when cops see pedals, they know it's a bicycle. I was actually thinking of re-polishing my cranks so they stand out a little more. :lol:

I was having a problem with the camera picking up the relatively dark DB display outdoors, so I shined one of my bike lights on it. I will make sure the next video has perfect visibility of the numbers. I was going to try a fresnel lense first to simply make the digits larer without narrowing the field of view.

I will definitely be shooting plenty of video now that I have the mounting all sorted out. I need to buy a high capacity camera bettery though, as both my lithium packs are on a downwards spiral and won't even last 20 min.

Just for fun I might unscrew the pegs and take a short vid of pedaling at 25km/h while the DB reads 0W.

As far as actually having useful power assist at speed, I would need to move the lower batteries around as they're now taking up the space of the two larger front chain rings. Then I would need a frame with 150mm rear dropout spacing to fit a gear cluster, as the X503 is wider than a 5303. I'm going to leave all that for the new bike...

I think it's an older model (or maybe just less popular?) with wider magnets and corresponding wider overall width although I've never measured side by side. I'm just going off the dimensions of a 530X posted in another thread.

The DrainBrain seems to have a slight amount of drift in the zero reading, and if I let it sit for a long time with power on, the battery recharges all by itself. Or at least that's what the regen number says :lol:
