Jinba's statement above really hit home for me. I also have found that cars will pass me no matter how fast I am going and I can go the speed limit anywhere within the city limits here. The other day a car followed me while I was doing a little over the 25 mph speed limit below my house on the straight section and I could clearly see them in my mirror. Just before our house the road narrows as it runs through an S curve and as I entered it the car decided it had to pass me and pulled way over in to the other lane doing about 35 or more to do so, and of course there were cars coming the other way.....Also folks will pull out in front of you thinking, oh, that is just a bike not realizing that you are doing the speed limit which you have to watch out for at all times. The bottom line is that being on your best defensive behaviour at all times while riding motor assist is the safest way to go.
What needs to happen is a sanctioning body that will go to bat for the motor assist bicycle contingent. Along the lines of bikesbelong.org. Cause mabsbelong also! 500,000 Chinese could not be wrong?
As far as trolls go, they are everywhere in all the forums and the best way to treat them is to ignore them and do what you think is right for yourself, your family and friends.
Now that gas is cheap again, anybody going a mere 10 mph over the speed limit is gonna get passed.
