I just finished watching the latest episode of American CHopper and was pleasantly surprised to see their latest build is for Lawless EV Racing, the goal is to build the worlds fastest drag bike, they are after 200mph low to mid 7 second passes.

OCC have had the frame fabricated by the frame building company Rolling Thunder up in Ontario Canada, they didn't give alot away, i did spot a A123 Systems sticker on the 'dumby' battery housing they provided OCC for the mock up of the bike & it was stated it would weigh in at 360 pounds, they mentioned the motor was originally an 36v industrial motor that will be running on 360v producing 500 or 600hp and weighed 300 pounds

OCC_Electric_Drage_bike.jpg

In the above pic 3rd down on the left you can see some form of coolant being sprayed on
a component, no idea what it is or does Luke?

9.47 150mph for its first ever full powered run with a rider whom has never riden a electric bike before (he does have 32 years experience on nitro bikes though haha) the gearing was to high unfortunately they had
no suitable sprockets at the track, they also said the bike came out ~300pounds heavier than originally planned.

Lawless racing bought along a couple of their other ev racers, a junior dragster and what looked like a 3/4 scale
drag bike, the drag bike runs 9 second passes at ~150mph Couple of the OCC workers took them for a run in the carpark
and not surprisingly were blown away by the torque, the bike wouldn't stop spinning the rear wheel haha, couple
of screen shots of them-->

They are heading to the track one more time before the bike will be "unveiled' at Sturgis in a few weeks
time. Next episode will show their second attempt at the world record and the unveil...shall report back
with any info and pics then.

EDIT: meant to also add for those wanting to watch the epsiode and are bittorrent users the episode i watched is American.Chopper.S07E07.HDTV.XviD-QSSDivX I have a 3 invites for TV Torrents if anyone has trouble finding them on public tracker...first in first served pm me your email addy and i'll hook you up.

Weird they are poking around with a123 on bikes that are 300lbs over target weight.

I will look into it more later. Today I'm at they track racing my own racecar. :)

Once again, looks like I'm the only car in my class that didn't arrive on a trailer, and it looks like about half the guys I'm up against have dedicated semi-truck/enclosed trailer combos to transport their racecars here...

It needs to race against the Tessler Roadster.

Cool. Cool. Cool. You may see alot more people embrace "ebikes" after this. Great publicity for the cause. You know how americans are such sheep!!! bahhhh bahhh ...... ;)

Wait, I just saw last years episode where they built that Siemens ebike...with SLA.

Now they are going to build an e-motorcycle with proper battery? 500hp sounds a lot better than 27hp.

I've been able to "sneak a peek" at Luke's dyno run... it's not wise to run for "pinks" against the lil' ol' Civic driven by LFP...

I'm guessing it was an expensive BANG did yo at least get a few good runs in or did it drop its lunch first pass?
the lil cooking you gave it on the freeway few weeks back has come back to bite you mate ;)

I have a free pass to Powercruise today should be a fun outing with all the mates
the weather will ensure LOTS of scantily clad wiminez hehe will have a heap of pics when i return....might get a few of some cars too :)

Why not LiPo instead of A123.
DON

If i had to guess, and judging by the 'A123' plastered over the battery housing i would
bet A123 are sponsoring the bike in some way.

Towing her caucus home on a u-haul being pulled by the civic that took 2nd in SS class. Lol

Honestly I'm just happy its the engine that blew and not the tranny. This failure will only cost me about 4k to fix.

The Shnieder electric bike was actually really well done. It looked like a bunch of A123 pouch cells. Of course all the cool stuff was done by the Shnieder guys. But it appears to be a really well-done hybrid, with something like 300 ft-lbs torque.....

I generally hate choppers becuase I ride real motorcycles and I hate how choppers are celebrated as the pinnacle of 2 wheeling...
They're toys!

However, I can appreciate that they are artwork. Embracing battery technology is pretty much the most anti-chopper thing I've ever heard... 8)

Which was why I surprised OCC actually built an electric one. I suppose they want to appear 'well-rounded'.

Is there anywhere to see this episode of OCC online?

No, not that i am aware, its very easy to download via bittorrent and watch, takes around 7 minutes
to download, you will need a bittorrent client to do so, i use and recommend UTorrents, its free and easy to setupyou can then watch the episode with whatever media player you have on your pc...

Its available now on public trackers http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5860774/American.Chopper.S07E07.HDTV.XviD-QSSDivX

Just finished watching the part 2 of the OCC electric drag bike and i am quite surprised too report....There is a new record holder for the fastestest electric bike, they took the world 1/4 mile record from the Killacyle with a run of 7.77 @ 165mph ...

There was alot more close ups of the bike in this episode, the cells used were definitely the green cylindrical A123 jobs...Both the drag bike and Paul Jnr designs Gieco and Anti Venom bikes along with the lecky drag bike were officially unvieled at Sturgis...

Right on! Raiseing the bar!

Indeedy ...pretty huge effort considering how long they have been at it compared with the killacycle crew...I think
we will be seeing lower times as they continue to refine the bike, could this possibly be the bike that takes it to the Nitro Harleys Luke?
They are still over a second off and in drag racing terms at these times might as well be a lifetime...good luck to them though.
Whats impressive is they can do a run ride it back not tow it and line it up for another run straight away, (in fact, i watched a vid
of the killacycle do exactly that ) nitro Harley motor needs a complete rebuild of the motor between runs and mega dollars to put
it down the strip this lecky prolly doesn't use a bucks worth of electricity, now that is impressive!

Seems like your finally starting to come around Aussie. Welcome to the Light side.

I have never been against electric drag vehicles I have been thinking of building a ~12 second electric drag bike since i completed the cruiser IMO its the only area they will be doing well in for along time to come, my opion of road going electric cars and motorcycles hasn't change one bit, Until they are capable of at least 200km on a charge at freeway speeds they are of no use to me and/or the majority of the population.. ;)

Doc

WoooTz THAT IS a burnout ain't it!!! haven't seen too many nitro Harleys arch it up that long!

Neither of those videos are from the ep of American Chopper Doc, the burnout vid is awesome though!! the 1/4 mile run
is different angle and lil less detailed than the one used in the show, OCC CNC guru Jim Quinn actually went done
to the track and shot the footage himself with one of those hi end hodef studio tupe cameras, it was played on a TV screen in Paul Seniors office
in front of all staff members involved in the bikes fabrication, the video was shot from behind
the bike rather than side on, gave a great view of the rider working to keep the bike online it also
displayed the trap time and top speed ... I have just signed up at Metcafe i'll see if i can up the
footage tomorrow morning

The Lawless Electric Rocket bike piloted by Larry "Spiderman" McBride made history May 4, 2012 with a National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) DMC/A3 record run of 6.940 at 201.37 mph making it the first electric vehicle to break 200 mph in the quarter mile! The 355 volt Rocket bike was built by Lawless Industries and Orange County Choppers.
