The Sunday NY Times had an article on the Volt, and they quoted a GM spokesperson saying that with a full tank (12 gallons) of fuel, and a fully charged battery, a range of 400 miles could be expected. If that's not a mistake then this car will be a letdown for many. Optimistically he may have been ignoring a 2-gallon reserve, meaning 40 mpg but only if you also charge via the grid once. If he meant to include all 12 gallons then that's 33 mpg but I'm sure it's not really that low. But since the Prius gets 45-50 mpg without any wall-charging at all, I hope the figure mentioned was a mistake.
