Welp, both of the Ping chargers I own are broken now. This last one at least gave some clues to what went wrong though (https://flic.kr/p/rwypL3). I replaced the obviously damaged components and it worked for about a minute charging the battery before I heard a spark and saw a little smoke and it went dead. Anybody got any ideas?

Luck of the draw I guess. I have two of those kingpan type chargers still cranking away after 6 years of use! I've even dropped em a few times, carried them around in a pannier, etc.

But for damn sure, satiator is very high on my wish list.

i have parts but cannot even make out what you are referring to.

In the picture there's a component that had a pretty epic failure just below the big capacitor with the "QC pass" sticker on it. I replaced all the damaged components already and it worked for a minute before failing again and now I can tell what's broken. All the parts I've taken out and checked have still been ok. Probably just dead forever now like the other one :(

My super cheapo plastic charger from my first ever ebike battery is still going fine. Probably close to 6 years on that and the fan has been making a racket the whole time but is still kickin'. I'm thinking I may take this opportunity to buy a satiator. I'm thinking I'm going to go with LiMn for my next battery so I'd eventually need another charger for that as well... but it could be years before I make that jump. I'm wondering how long one should expect a satiator to last if they're just using it for at home charging. Decades?

if you have a loose ground wire there then it would have shorted out the high voltage on caps in the front end. but i cannot tell if that ground wire is loose. it should be over on the side of the case under the nut.

Whoops, yeah didn't even have the ground wire connected at all. Checked the big 200V capacitors like the one that has the "QC pass" sticker on it, but they were still fine. Were those the ones you were talking about, or are there other capacitors I should check?

Are the chargers under warranty? If so, make Ping replace them.

They're like 3 years old, so I would assume not.
