Anyone know about the specs? All the site says is

This is guaranteed by selected, high-quality technical components such as the full-suspension carbon frame and the new, powerful SHIMANO motor with assisted pedalling speeds of up to 25km/h.

This article doesn’t settle it either:

https://www.theverge.com/2021/3/4/22313508/porsche-electric-bike-ebike-sport-cross-specs-price

From the article:

There are two models of Porsche e-bike, the Sport and the Cross. The Sport is a road bike intended for everyday use, with a full-suspension carbon fiber frame, integrated front and rear lights, Shimano mid-drive motor, and a price tag that would make Jeff Bezos blush. The Sport, which weighs a little less than 48 pounds, will set you back about $10,700, which is just an astonishing price for an e-bike.

The Cross is more for off-roading adventures, Porsche says. It also sports a Shimano mid-drive, carbon fiber frame, and full suspension, in addition to Magura-MT Trail hydraulic disc brakes that are extra-large and “heat resistant.” It weighs 48.7 pounds and will retail for $8,549.

Either way, it’s fun to see a Porsche product advertise a top speed of 25km/h.

Can you spot any ebike components they might have used?

Thats because some countries have a limit of 25kph, in Canada its 32kph but I wouldnt be suprised if UK's lame 250W law corresponds to 25kph.

I didnt really read the article or look at the pictures carefully, but the motor looks familiar.

All Porsche did was browse a dozen china builders to suit their needs, slap on the Porsche logo and give their ebikes a nice paint job and instantly their profit margins increase ten fold. It'd be an option in the high end vehicle purchase of say Range Rover, I'd be interested to see the bicycle rack it comes with. Thule perhaps.

Clearly you don't know squat about the Porsche design team or their process. What you describe above isn't in their blood.

But perhaps you are merely projecting: i.e. you are describing what you would do in their stead.

They designed and made their own motor and controller?

Oh so they bought an off the shelf motor and an off the shelf controller.

Backpedaling are we?
Making ignorant, unsubstantiated claims on a forum like this is not advisable.

The bike is manufactured to Porsche's design specs by ROTWILD.
Hardly a firm whose products could be characterized as "off the shelf".

Being a dick doesn't entitle you to say "gotcha" to anyone -- especially the folks on this list.

I think that if I won the lottery and decided to buy a $9k ebike, it would have a rear suspension. Also adjustable handlebars. It would make much more sense to buy a Frey CC and slap a Porsche sticker on it. Speaking of which, it will be pretty embarrassing for Porsche if the two bikes (or three, to be fair, as the Cross is the more direct competitor) are ever featured in a comparison test. It would be as if, instead of battling it out to a near draw with a somewhat less expensive Tesla, Porsche had their butts handed to them by a Nissan Leaf.

For those of you not familiar with Porsche Design here is a link to their US_en site:

Note that at this point, Porsche Design primarily caters to the 1%. And I have loved their design gestalt since their founding -- like many things German, the best in the world (even if it is ridiculously expensive for us mere mortals). So I urge y'all to appreciate the effort and talent that goes into taking such a visionary stance. Being jealous of things you can't afford is a fools errand as all the enlightened ones whom came before us keep reminding us.

Notwithstanding, I'm still in favor of taxing the 1% heavily.

Speaking of extraordinary design, take a look at the sculpting of the Porsche "sport" bike's handlebar with everything hidden within. Frankly, a work of art, Nobody does that, much less the Chinese.

It has rear suspension...

My bad. I looked at the first photo, where the rear suspension is obscured, and assumed that the "Sport" was a hardtail.

Well, if we discuss German design, Audi did beat Porshe by a decade, with a bike that is still another decade ahead of Porshe design. That is 20 years ahead, that should make Porshe designers and engineers ashamed.

I guess I'm just more concerned with function over form. If I were younger and healthier maybe I'd be more impressed. As it is, I see a bike that would be very uncomfortable for me, at a price that is triple that of bikes with the same or better functionality, but less style. It also has a top speed of a little under 16MPH. Ouch. My old $300 EZIPs were faster. Hopefully a higher top speed can be unlocked for the North American market.

Porshe designed in 2020, 25 kmh pretty standard e-mtb like many bicycle manufacturers are doing.

Audi designed in 2010, 80 kmh with functions, motorization, and design characteristics that are still exclusive to Audi 10 years later.
