I would like recomendations on powering a 1420i. Would prefer USA retailer or one that has a USA warehouse. I'm looking for value not just the lowest price. Prefer 2 supplies for redundancy if necessary.

something like this should get you by or get 2 for full speed charging,

To get the full 550W out of the 1420i charger you need about 600-650W on the input side. I use a pair of S-350-24 supplies in parallel, but it is hard to get the outputs dialed in to the exact same voltage so that they will share the current load properly. What I would do is use two S-350-12 supplies (or equivalent...), wired in series.

If a buddy comes thru I'm going to start with using a HP ML 370 ps @ 12V. He thinks he can get 4 of them that have been sitting for a year. Found a RC thread where they discuss the safety considerations in detail of using these in series. (one case is ungrounded). If this falls thru next step is I have a John Deere Tractor running on 24V. I'll tap into that as a power source. I went ahead and ordered your charging solution. I went ahead and ordered a hyperion 1420i from another source and 4- 6s 5000maH Turnigys. I've been waiting for over 4 weeks for my 48V battery to arrive from ebikekit.com and my patience is somewhat stressed. Had I had a functioning battery I would have waited until you restocked.

I noticed that ebikekit.com no longer offers the 48V battery. I hope I'm not recieving backlash from a dispute beween ebikekit and the vendor. Their site stated 6-10 days for delivery. It's been 29 days so far. No shipping email sent either. Perhaps Gadaffi is holding it hostage
