I have the Phantom X model and read of someone upgrading to a 48volt battery (from a 36 volt) without changing the controller. Can anyone inform me if this is possible or if you have done this. I would like to get a little higher top speed but if this would fry the controller than maybe I won't. It is a 500 watt direct drive hub motor so that should be able to handle the increase voltage. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

to be sure, open the controller to see if your capacitor are over 50volts. motor normally should be no problem handling the voltage.

A great many 36v controllers can be run on 48v. Look for 63v capacitors inside, that look like little cans. If you see 63v, go for it. If you see 50v marked on stuff, stay at 36v.

If anyone opens up the controller box on a predeco please report to us if it has the 63 or 50 volt capacitors Thanks

Gladly, send me your bike.

Since you are the one that has one...... pop it open.

did you do this? I am thinking of the same move. But I am not an electrical genius . i was hoping to just purchase a 48 volt battery or get one put into my case. Please let me know how yours worked out,
Thanks in advance

I have a extra x2 phantom controllers sitting around. I'll ask dogman for his locale.

Just open the controller, usually just a few screws on the end. Peek inside. Look for little soup can looking things with 63v on the side. If they say 50v on the side, then you can only run 36v.

You're looking for voltage on the big caps, not the smaller ones. See the 63v on the caps.

I opened my controller on my Prodeco Phantom X2 today. The caps are rated at 50v. My bike was produced last month and the controller is different than the ones pictured on some of the other threads.
