Hey guys! I was riding my bike in a pretty heavy rain this morning and when I got to work I noticed I'd lost my rain cover. I also noticed that the power switch on the battery no longer turns the battery off...

I opened it up there's no water intrusion inside... the switch is sealed from the inside though so I'm unable to see if there is water inside on the connections...

does this sound like a potential BMS failure or like the switch shorted out and is dead?

is the battery still safe to use?

You opened up the battery? Is the switch part of the battery? Can you disconnect the switch?
yea I opened it up to make sure there wasn't water in the case, the switch is part of the case and appears to be soldered to the BMS, only way I could disconnect it is to cut the wire I believe.

What is the other switch terminal connected to? Is it soldered on both ends also?

Did the water get anywhere else inside the battery case?

yea it's also soldered at both ends, there isn't signs of water anywhere else inside the case. looks perfectly dry. I'm assuming a bit of water just got into the edges around the switch itself

OK I think we can be cautiously optimistic about the problem being simply a (temporary?) water-intrusion based switch failure. If kept in a dry location, it should dry out in a few days on its own. It may or may not have further damage.

I have helped dry out switches (don't know if they are similar to yours as you have not posted photos of it) by holding a high power vacuum to the exposed surface of the switch. Using a crevice tool to concentrate the vacuum suction.
