I've had a 12s (12Ah) headway pack for 18 months now - ex EV Assemble. Although it wasn't stuck together too well and arrived with the balance plug half out of the bms (which is why I opened it, popped back in the plug and took the attached photo), it has given good service. I commute 16km, 4-5 times a week and it hasn't lost much capacity. I suspect it may last at least 18 months more.

My commute also has my two year old on the bike because I take him to day care. He's now too large for a WeeRider, front of the top tube, bike seat and he'll be shifted to a bigger seat on the back rack. Hence, I have to shift the battery elsewhere. The WeeRider attaches via a solid bar which runs along the top tube and I could see a way of using that to 'straddle' mount the battery - similar to the way some straddle mount the the 20Ah lifepo packs or even rc lipo.

Question: how hard would it be to take apart the 4x3 configuration and reconstitute it as 6x2 - six on each side of the top tube with the bms in a small box, lying atop the top tub. I'm thinking of some sort of u-shaped (end on profile) piece of aluminum with a couple of otter boxes (or similar) screwed to the down plates of that. Clearly, this could be easy because headway cells are of the screw tab type, but some of the existing balance wires would likely not be long enough. From the photo, it looks like the balance plug could have some sort of jst crimp connector - I hate crimping that small!

Do-able?

I think so. To extend the balance wires just splice in extra wire in the middle, solder and heat shrink. That is how I did my Ping when I split it. Headways should be much easier and you can mount them lower for better stability. Good luck on your venture.
