VERY VERY INTERESTING IDEA !!!

Swiss researchers enhance Li-ion batteries with improved electrode design!!

I wonder if I can convince the local hospital MRI guys to blast my battery into alignment
I think my chances are low...

I thought this would of been done years ago. The science is old now, but I guess application costs and until one person does it, nobody actually needs to compete. Still... why are Samsung not doing this with top end phones.

Wait, you mean up to now manufacturers have been throwing randomly electrodes in the cells?

That's like zero ducks were given when they designed cells and these guys are actually trying to show how it should have been done from the beginning.

It's more tricky than they make it sound. We currently deposit the material in a solvent slurry which gets baked out and recovered. This leaves gaps and passages through the material from the voids the solvent had previously occupied. Then this porous layer gets calendar press rolled to a precision thickness and density continuously being ultrasonically measured to confirm correct thickness/density/uniformity to optimize material layer thicknesses and packaging. Then it gets vacuum oven baked for a few days before having electrolyte added and beginning the formation process.
