Me and my GF bought sn old farm property 35km from the city, and we have spent our savings rebuilding the house. This all started 5-6y ago, when my GF-s uncle approached us and invited to see some old farm they had (his wife-s birth place). The house was neglected since they lived at the other end of the country so they were a bit worried it will just rot over the time.
We saw a lot of potential there and immediately agreed to take care of it and both sides agreed we can buy it when the time is right.
The property is huge and we got 2 tractors along with some farming tools for free.
We quickly learned that it takes 2 full days to mow the lawn there with standard push mower.
At 3. season I bought a 1.8m wide mower for the tractor and it's been joy ever since.
Meanwhile we had a kid and she's 4 now.
So, as for the house, we took it apart, left only the log walls from the old house and rebuilt everything else with proper insulation, underfloor heating, air to water heat pump, totally new electrical dystem and so on. As one of my hobbies is building electronic projects, entire house is now controlled by Home Assistant system. Each room has zigbee temperature sensor and also the underfloor water contour can be triggered electronically. For lights I used Philips Hue zigbee bulbs. There's not a single "switch" that would turn power off-on, there's not even a cabling for switches. Everything is powered all the time and steered by Home Assistant.
Right now we have reached the point where the house is almost livable, there's just some finishing to be done - paint here and there etc.
I also installed 12kw of solar panels, so I can charge an electric car for free (driving an diesel Accord right now, but my next car will be electric for sure).
So last year we took the loan and bought the property finally, after being invested 100k already).

Would be interesting to see more details.

When can I move in? I'll bring a great guard dog...as long as guarding means laying there doing nothing.

Haha, our friends have been asking the same question every now and then, "when will you move in?" First years we said "at this christmas", then it transformed to "at christmas", and now we just smile an say " yeah..."
