Found the perfect seat layout. While machining the seat post adapter, I
realized the front tabs would bolt straight on to the seat post clamp tabs.
On the rear I bent a 3/4 x 1/8 aluminum strip into a U shape, punched a
couple of holes with the drill press and done.
Less interesting is the freewheel and chain I installed to stay ebike legal,
except for a few extra watts. Unscrewing the foot pegs produced
blistering 25km/h speeds on pedal power alone.

lowell,

i take my inspiration from you for my dirt bike seat conversion - you've done a great job there on yours - i too see no reason either to have a razor like saddle bashing my derrier, good work!!!!
you'll be getting your knee down next!!!!

always carry enough money to make bail

Interesting bike you have there. What model and front forks are those? They look short travel which seems hard to find. You had Mantiou shocks before, what happened to those? How much travel did those have?

I bet they only look that way because of all the weight from the batteries. You're seeing them half-compressed.

I agree about the bail comment. Your bike is looking flagrantly illegal, Lowell. :)

The old Manitous were the original fork that came with the bike I think, and were long past being a suspension fork, as well as lacking a disc brake mount. New forks are Rock Shox Toras and I machined the spring preload adjuster for shorter travel which is now about 1.5-2". Any long travel fork can probably be modified in a similar way for on-road use.

These types of scooter/ebikes are the only ones that seem to get hassled by the cops, and only when the users take the pedals off.

Note that even the website photo shows no pedals.

With the renewed interest in cruiser bikes, I think the police are used to seeing strange and crazy bicycles around town.

As usual your mileage may vary...
Man is that ever a fugly motorcycle...

I'd rather just have a whole new frame, as I'm not really crazy about the raised chain stays, and the front triangle is too small to put all the batteries inside.
I have quite a bit of experience with 4130 tubing, having built a funny car chassis and a few roll cages so a bike frame should be a cinch. That way I can build the frame around the drivetrain for a perfect fit.

a custom frame would be the ticket for me too lowell - ebikes are great but all too often their just too ugly imho - if you have the equipment and skill custom frames would solve so many mounting issues.
