Not sure if this is the place to ask but...

I'm building an electric motorcycle and I want to have a smartphone interface and have a direct method of programming my FOC sinewave motor controller - maybe run the lights using an ambient light sensor as well. The power supply is 48v 20ah and I'm working out how to step that down to about 12v and 5v at about 3-5a (any suggestions about this are welcome).

First of all is a RPi (or preferably an arduino) appropriate for this kind of application?

If so, can the motor controller sensors be connected to the GPIO pins?

And is there a thread related to this kind of project that I can study before I ask anymore unnecessary questions?

Thanks everyone!
