Sabvoton 72150 Throttle Issue

So I bought a Stealth Bomber that was ridden very little and put together very well.

That said, I don’t think the guy i purchased it from fully sorted the throttle. It has an 8000w hub motor and a Sabvoton SVMC 72150 controller.

Symptoms: On my first (and only so far) ride on it I put the PAS on 1 and began to pedal away and suddenly the throttle kicked in FULLY. While the acceleration made me laugh, it lasted way too long and was way too abrupt. It probably lasted 3 seconds before it slowed. The same thing happened when i used only the throttle - full throttle for 3 seconds before it backed off.

My question is how do I set the controller so the throttle is less abrupt and makes a smooth acceleration instead of going full and taking so long to stop accelerating? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
 
Does it use the Cycle Analyst to process the PAS and throttle before reaching the controller? If so, you can go to ebikes.ca and find the manual for that version (it has the firmware/hardware version at power up on screen), and then get into settings and note down the present throttle mode, and then change it to PASSTHRU. This directly sends without delay the throttle signal from your throttle to the controller. If the system now responds without delay, the problem is in the CA settings. Change the throttle setting back to what it was, and then we can figure out what to change to fix the problem.

If you choose to experiment on your own, *always* write down *all* of the settings in *all* of the menus before you change *any* setting because some settings can interact with others and might change their values without you knowing what they were, and then you now have a much more complex problem on your hands if those values change behaviors you didn't want changed.


If the delay still exists, (or it doesn't use a Cycle Analyst) the problem is in the controller, and you'll ahve to find the manual and software for that controller and the hardware necessary to "talk" to it, and then figure out what settings in that software affect reaction time, and fix them. You can post what you find for controller settings you find it has at present, and then someone can help figure out what to change.

Some controllers that are programmable don't have software to do it, but only menus in a controller-specific display, so you'd need the display/controller manual to figure out what those settings are and which could fix the problem (if any).

If it isn't a programmable version of the controller, and has no display menus you can change, but it is what is causing the delay, then you'd probably have to replace the controller with one that doesnt' have a delay.

Note that unless it uses the CA to interpret the PAS and make a throttle signal, virtually all controller PAS operation is just on/off at whatever the present assist level setting is. So if you pedal, at all, you get all of the speed or torque or power or whatever that assist level is configured for. If you don't pedal, you get nothing. In most of them, the throttle is not affected by the PAS level, and always provides a full range of control over the motor speed or torque or power or whatever the controller is configured for.

I believe the previous owner did not use Cycle Analyst for initial setup - he sent me the link to the MQCON manual for setup. I will have to do a deep dive into that for the throttle adjustments.

Just so you understand, and can properly troubleshoot the problme:

It doesn't matter if the PO "used the CA for initial setup"--if the CA is built into the system and is wired up to the PAS/trhottle, and sending the throttle out to the controller, then you must figure out how the CA is presently setup, and then correct it's setup (if wrong) to work the way you want.

You need to go into mid voltage on the throttle and crease the figure. I used to buy sabvoton all he time. But they are not like they used to be. The components are all be replaced with some cheap shit components and qs say it was an upgrade yet the later 2 I’ve brought both popped way to easy. Certainly no upgrade. The throttle for the sabvoton are a very violent throttle acceleration. You can lower phase amps and it will also make it a lot more useable and a domino pot style throttle. That made a huge difference. But all in all it always will have a touchy throttle socially when running high amp figures

Thank you very much. That is what I am experiencing - a violent throttle. So did you say go into “mid voltage” and increase the number? Also lower phase amps?

On my bomber clone has an sw900 display and sabvotron 72150 controller. Through the display you can change the responsiveness and "power curve" of the pedal assist.
 
In addition I was told this on a different forum:

I dunno what bikes *they* ride, but the first one is not true of any bike I've had any experience with. iv'e seen this switch-=like behavior reported on many kickscooters, however, and there are some cheap bikes that use throttles that aren't matched with their controllers or capabilities that can act like taht. Most bikes don't use potentiometers but do use variable-output throttles of one type or another (most commonly an analog hall sensor, not the same as the halls in the motors).

The second one is often true of cheap PAS systems, but three seconds? not that I've seen. Even the worst one Iv'e ridden (an old fusin) it was more like one second, but even that was seriously problematic since I have to ride in traffic.


Based on what I've read of the real Stealth Bomber by stealthbikes.au in austraila, neither one of those things is an issue with their bikes, so if you ahve these problems you don't have a Stealth Bomber, though you might have some cheap "lookalike" or counterfeit if it actually calls itself a stealth bomber.

The SB's I've seen so far all use the Cycle Analyst on them, but perhaps newer ones don't. If yours doesn't have one *and* it has these problems, I suspect it is not actually an SB, so telling us exactly what you have, in detail, where it's from, etc., may help us help you better, since none of the things about an actual Stealth Bomber will apply, and so our help for that kind of bike won't apply to yours and won't help you.
 
MY own designed and built 'Bomber clone' runs a Sabvoton 96120 (From QS motors). Driving a QS273 motor. Fast, powerful and reliable. Used daily for 3 years until retirement and now 1 to 4 times a week for fun or trip to shops. (5 years problem free, 12,500kms)

When I was in the process of building my bike, I looked at many makes of controller and settled on a Sabvoton (at the time they were with Kelly, about the best), BUT, none of them offered PAS and as far as I know with the ones now available, they still do not have PAS, so I am a little confused how it is possible with yours.
I know there are many Sabvoton clones around, so maybe some non genuine copy offers this, but as far as I know and can see, PAS is not an option with a 'close' to genuine one.
The throttle is also sharp and the MSQN software really make little difference to it's sensitivity.
To have PAS and a nice smooth throttle, I added a Cycle analyst 3 to mine and that is how it has been for over 5 years.

To be honest, my screen shows PAS, but it didn’t seem to have any effect, whether I selected 1 or 5 the throttle response was the same. With 8000 watts on tap the throttle is very sharp and the speed just keeps climbing unless I back it off. Also, it seems to keep pulling for a few seconds after I close it. Would Cycle Analyst provide me with a way to resolve it?

PAS doesn't usually have anything to do with the throttle; that is for your pedal assist.

No. That's your controller doing that, so you have to change the controller settings, if it has any. To do that, you have to know which controller it is, then get the hardware and software to do this from that controller's manufacturer, if they provide it (many don't).

If it's not programmable, then you would have to replace it with one that is.


It's tough to do much to help, since you haven't told us what the bike actually is, and has installed on it, since it can't be an actual Stealth Bomber from the few things you *have* said.

If it's a clone, it could be built with literally *anything*, so we can't know what's on it, and we can't help you figure out how to do anything with any part of it.

All we can do is guess, which just wastes our time and yours.

The less you tell us, the less we can help.
