Savety: Electric Shock when touching frame

i think you guys are all over reaching by jumping strait to bullying. this could just be a prank battle battle between friends. He knows the consequences and still wants to do it, this is no different than rc lipo, you warn them, then help or leave. only a few people have actually given him good alternatives to a shock or helped him build it.

Well thats a lot of reactions we got here. First of all thanks for trying to help how to react to this "bullying" (I don´t like that word). Still I asked just for your oppinions about the idea of the electric shock system, and not why this would be Quote: "immature". And also not how to react when getting bullyed. Still quite nice from you, thanks. Maybe Im going for something different, not directly with an electric shock. Maybe with an alarm-system which goes off by interrupting the electric circulation. So instead of the shock just the alarm with an Arduino.

As someone said: This is really like on a german forum where you ask for "how to build an electric bike". You get every single possible answer you could imagine, but (nearly) nothing about your question. But still nice from you trying to help me against this supposedly "bullying". In my oppinion you can´t call it like that. If I hear the word "bullying" I think about someone who gets annoyed every day, every time, everywhere by his fellows. But thats not the case here. The people like me and like them a bit. They are not my friends but also no assho**s. The camera thing will be the best thing I could choose. First of all I would need to find a camera which can get clued in / build into the bike frame / on the bike frame and which doesn´t look like this one:
shopping

This would be a secure, also good looking methode to get these guys, there you are right. I will overthink the electric shock idea. Maybe a round, black 180 degree camera would be a good idea which gets on when the arduino controller sees some people coming near the bike. That could be a good idea. Have to think about it. Something like this:

Practical jokers sooner or later will most certainly move elsewhere if they are strictly ignored instead of entertained by your reactions to their provocation. In other words, they'll get bored when toying around with your bike no longer is fulfilling for them. A couple of guys used to do stuff like that at my night job and they quit after a few weeks.

So... Nobody gonna help him? U just all going to lesson him?
Fair thing would be to give him a warning, after that a solution. All i can see are warnings.
He could run them over with a bike but u ain't saying "dude don't build e bike, u will have more torque in their teeth + 300 w if u pedal"
U are not responsible for what is he going to use it, help the guy. If he decides not to do it (which i strongly encourage), he will know how to actually build it.

Regarding people touching your stuff, stick a fork on the upper side of their pawn, it really worked in my high school. It's not a weapon and u can use excuse like "i was going to cook them a nice meal and... oh well... accidents happen...." ;)

Help him? Assisting a 17yo with something that is sure to shock himself on multiple occasions, and has near 0% chance of achieving the desired goal, not to mention is likely to be quite illegal in his jurisdiction, is not helping him.

Thank you John for deavaluing everything Im talking about because of my age. :| Really great to hear that you gonna shock yourself because you are 17 years old. Well... such logic. -.-`

We only say that it is not a good idea to build your bike as a tazer. Then, some just need to be shocked to learn. We have some here on ES, who became better after a KFF experience.

Work on your reading comprehension before attempting a discussion of logic. Anyone of any age is sure to end up shocking themselves with such a rig. When we're young we're more prone to doing stupid things simply because we lack the experience to know better. Those trying to discourage have given you the benefit of the doubt, that maybe learning the hard way isn't the only way you can learn. If you still think it's a good idea, then go for it. Please be sure to always have the camera rolling, and be man enough to share the good stuff even if it's embarrassing.

There is a very small chance someone with a cardiac pacemaker touches that bike. If he/she touches it, there is a small chance that person will go into cardiac arrest because the pacemaker is malfunctioned. There is a small chance someone who knows CPR is around to keep the vital organs alive while the ambulance arrives so the pacemaker can be reset.

Feeling lucky?

jesusjesus, that's too funny :D Wonder if a bug zapper would do much?

For the record, I would build such a thing as a shocking deterant, if it wasn't such a pita to do and if there isn't some weird law against it.
For fun, to be used sparingly.
Just like owning/operating the bike itself, care must be used, after all you could run over a group of nuns or some stupid idiot could trip over the parked bike and and blame you for smashing their nuts.

But then again, this world is so strange with all the things to protect us from ourselves, like the traffic and ebike statutes.
Nanny state, but can't say we are not deserving i guess.

Well, after a kid (dumb young retard on the bmx i would say) hit a woman with a baby in her arms, she pressed charges and now police is writing us tickets and forbidding to drive anywhere else but public roads. I will not mention we have about 800-900 meters of legal bike line in 300 000 population town and how primitive our drivers are. 98% don't even know bicycles can drive/are allowed legally on the road.

People, don't drive bikes anymore, it's dangerous!

But seriously....
Regarding your issue, i might have an idea. Was thinking about something like it when my neighbor cut my car tyres a few times (7 of them) and police said they could do nothing even when they saw him on my camera doing it. (u need witnesses apparently)

Find some tasers online (or make 1 yourself, plenty of schemes online), connect it to bike frame, hidden ofc. Buy some universal programmable transponder (something like universal remote garage key) with a board, program it, connect to a taser and voila! Holding a button gives power to the taser, letting off kills the "switch". I hope u get what i am saying.

Now u decide who is getting shocked by a click of a button without possibility of random accidents. Only thing, u need to be around 20 meters distance max, or find some signal amplifier or whatever for that.

Don't forget to put warning sticker on the bike, warn everyone else but the bullies! (they don't read stickers anyways)

Electric Shock = Bad idea.

I often wonder about the people who write on this forum. Look at the avatars and wonder if the people are male or female. DasDouble - Look at your avatar and see a man in a bear suit dancing with a boom box. I don't know why, but the picture makes me annoyed. I might have some weird mental issues? DasDouble - Are you doing something to other people that makes them pour apple juice on your bicycle?

Dancing bear might have something to do with LSD?

No, I don´t think so. I wish I would know why people are doing bad things on others so I would have better changes to solve the problem. Maybe because they like to destroy expensive things, maybe because they don´t like e-bikes, maybe because I am a 17 year old guy who forgives others way to early for doing something stupid on him without directly punching them in their face because he is to sentimental. I don´t know  :|
Cheers

PS: An Avatar is IMO just for recognizeing each other without having to read the name first. Doesn´t have to do anything with LSD or such shi*.

Try talking to the people who might be vandalizing your bike. If you let people ride your electric bike they will have a whole new attitude about electric bicycles. Warning.... bad people might ride away on the bike and never come back.

When I was 17 dancing bears did have something to do with LSD

Owsley "Bear" Stanley wrote that the "dancing bears" designed by Bob Thomas for History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One (Bear's Choice) are marching, not dancing.

Definitly try this if u didn't already!

Yes this methode works. On many people. But many are still laughting about it. I will do this with everyone I trust in the future, who makes jokes about the new one. Im shure this will work again. Thanks.

Hey,
I was bullied myself in high school, so I know where you are coming from. What did I do? Ignored them as best I could. That worked ok. Confronted a few, that worked alright also, but I was lucky and they backed down. I don't think there is any "one solution fits all." It just depends.

Don't go with the electric zapper idea. You asked for opinions. There it is.

What would I do in your situation? Not sure.
- Consider alternate transport. Would you leave your awesome bike in a shifty part of town? No, of course not, because it would be stolen or damaged. So maybe your school bike rack is not the place for your bike ...
- Consider talking to the school principal to ask for help. Not saying it will help, but it can't hurt.

Colin

Well thank you for your kindless information how to react to bullying. But that´s not what I have asked for. I will have to deal with this for my own. I just want to hear oppinions to electric shock systems, and or other anti thief systems. Not about bullying. Thanks

As fun as it might be to think about, don't put an electric shock system on your bike. At best you'll only end up shocking yourself. At worst the "boobytrap" lands you in jail or the hospital or worse. Somewhere in between someone gets shocked and they smash your bike up and/or sue you. IOW no good can come of it, but plenty of bad.

Ok I thing it's now up to me what I am going to do. Also I think you can close this threat for now.
Cheers, Elias.

I don't condone this...but it is rather funny and awesome...
