I walked into Performance bikes today in Redmond, WA and I saw the rare Schwinn Continental! They *do* exist! They had a men's version but there was already something wrong with the throttle and it was waiting for the new part from Schwinn.

Here are some pics to give you a closer look from what you see in the press release.

Throttle next to the Leather grip to match the leather Brookes saddle.

Thoughts?

Nice. Left handed throttle. Mmmm. Did they say how much it costs?

The bikes were so new they didn't have price tags yet. I did ask, but it was clear he didn't really know. He said something like "$18-sumpin'" which is much less than what I've seen them advertised at. I had a feeling if I pressed him and made him actually look up the real price he'd come back and say $2300 :)

Here are a couple pics of the Schwinn Campus found at the same shop:

Assuming a 26" wheel:

26" (yeah, yeah, I know) x 3.1459 / 12 = 6.81612 ft/rev

6.81612 x 235 x 60 = 96107.245 ft/hr

96107.245 / 5280 = ~18mph

Geared to keep just under the legal limit, it looks like. 180W is legal in pretty much every country, too. Definitely won't have to worry about your drops, though .

I like the battery setup--very clean. I suspect these are very pleasant for riding like a normal bike. I'll be interested to hear about test drive impressions. Wonder what you can raise the voltage to?

I like the way both hubs are Xbox huge on that first bike, the bike looks balanced that way. Battery thing really isn't anywhere near as good looking as in pictures unfortunately. The grips, accelerator, controls, just look delicious. Matching grips and saddle is a nice touch but on this bike it's ruined by the jackass seat angle.

My pops has a couple bikes with a shaft drive setup like that first one. Great for riding while wearing dresses or bellbottoms..

How old is that bike of your pops? Shaft drives are cool but they haven't really caught on. Maybe if bellbottoms were back in fashion. :)

The art-school hotties are wearin bell bottoms...

...but I bow in humble homage to the inventor of lettering on the ass of shorts and sweats. 8)

I like it, never seen a shaft drive bike in real life, would love to try it though.

Left hand throttle is actually a good choice because the most gearing is done on the right side of the handle bar. One of my two ebikes have left throttle, and the one i'm building will also.

"No no no I wasn't staring at your ass sweetie, was merely trying to read your pants.."

Its an early 90's japan import, three speed manual. Nothing as fancy as today's stuff. Heavier and less robust than chain drive. Its only true calling is the woman's city cruiser. Which the pictured brown bike is..
