SE US18650V or SE US18650V3? interchangeable?

I have been trying to replace my old SE US18650V cells in a 36V BionX system. I have the older one without the speed limiter and a 500W motor so I would like to keep it running. I am finding it almost impossible to find these Sony cells for some odd reason. It seem all that are available are the SE US18650 V3 ones. Are these compatible or will using these just give me a nice fireworks display?

From memory, this was discussed before, so do a bit of creative searching. IIRC, the consensus was that it would be OK to use the alternative ones.
