Hi guy
I have a Mac 8T
My freewheel side cover sheared off where the cassette spins onto.
Thankfully Paul was kind enough to send me a replacement. Its probably a long shot but would there be a heavy duty replacement cover for the MAC?
Im assuming there isnt but I could be wrong. I did come across a cover for the Bafang motors in Europe but its like 109 euros.
Im just worried that after installing the new one that Ill get stranded somewhere if it snaps off. Seems lile a freak occurence though.
Thanks!

What freewheel were you using? Is it possible to use a shorter one that will have less leverage in top gear.

Also, there's a thread somewhere from a guy that put an extra bearing inside his freewheel to support it at the outboard end.

I used a shimano 7 speed...the bike originally had a 9 sprocket cassette but on the 8th and 9th sprocket the chain was skipping

Im currently running a 7 speed cassette.. should I go with less gears and a more narrower cassette so that there would be less pressure on the side cover?

Adding an extra bearing for sure is the best idea. Breaking off the gears is a known problem. But it doesn't mean that it will happen again. If you where unlucky and had a cover that was made of some lower quality material this was inevitable.

I think I read someone doing that but cant seem to find the link

Sadly no. Im thinking of a 5 speed Sunrace cassette which is a lot more narrower than the 7 speed
