Silicone wire OK?

Yep, silicon wire is ok. I use multistrand hobbyking wire with silicon insulation all the time. Just make sure that you can take a look at the ratings so that they agree to your needs. I.e., don't use silicon wires rated for 80oC within a motor, use the 200oC instead.

Only caveat is the wire chafes or gets cut easier than pvc insulation. You can sheath it with heat shrink in a particularly chafe or cut prone area with heat shrink. So no problems. I use it for lots of stuff too, any wiring upgrades I do use the silicone wire.
 
Turnigy Silicone wire is great stuff and pretty affordable. Super flexible and contains many many fine strands.

They are so popular in RC use for a reason.
