SLA mounting

can SLAs be mounted in any orientation ie sideways or upside down?

I beleive that it depends on the type. The AGM type I use has a solid crystal type filler so it can be used in any position except upside down. The flooded (liquid) type I think sshould be used right side up because the liquid could leak. I beleive that they even have vent holes in them. My AGM ones are sealed.

Why can't it be used upside-down? That makes no sense to me; they should work in any orientation. It wouldn't surprise me if the flooded ones worked upside-down too; there shouldn't be any empty space in them.

Some manufacturers spec the AGM batteries to work in any position. I would avoid upside down since condensation can build up and any liquid (including acid) would be pushed out of the vent if the battery ever started gassing.
