Hi,
I have a dilemma about cells for my battery pack 20S6P for e-bike ( MXUS 3K 4Tmotor).
Witch cells have proven to be better:
Sony Konion VTC6 or LG HG2?!

Thanks!

You can use this page to compare 18650s under different loads.

The Sony VTC6 is the best 3000mAh 18650 available right now. It performs marginally better than a Samsung 30Q. The VTC6 doesn't have as much voltage sag under high loads. The Samsung 30Q is in the middle. It's still pretty good, but a little bit worse than t he VTC6. The LG HG2 is the worst out of these three. Right from the start its voltage sags more than the 30Q, and it sags even more as time goes on. The difference isn't huge though, so don't let it influence you too much.

Unfortunately, the Sony VTC6 is the most expensive of the three. The 30Q and HG2 are similarly priced. Illumn.com has the lowest prices on all three of them at the moment. $5 for an HG2 or a 30Q, $6 for a VTC6.

Thanks eee291!

Yes, VTC6 has very low resistance...and high price :)
Is there some experience in life cycle? Are they has "normal" num. of cycles like 30Q or HB2...?

Thanks!

First of all there is a little confusing that you talking about LG HG2 and HB2. I think you are interested in LG HG2 which is 3000mAh cell and so it is the same league as Sony VTC6 and Samsung 30Q. LG HB2 is 1500mAh High Power cell for powertools.

Yes there are some experiences with cycle life for all three competitors HG2,VTC6 and 30Q under the same testing conditions 0.5C charge and 1C discharge at 100% DoD. It is hard to interpret the results without seeing the graphs (sorry I can not make it public). But one thing is clear that Samsung 30Q cell results are very bad when cycled at 100% DoD (dead after 400 cycles with steep capacity fade form the beginning). HG2 and VTC6 are comparable, where HG2 gives after first 100 cycles significantly more capacity than VTC6 (up to 10% more capacity at 700th cycle) but then HG2 capacity starts fading rapidly. VTC6 capacity is fading rapidly from the beginning, but it will stabilize about 600th cycle and holds up to 1000 cycles where I stop testing.

But this artificial test must be interpreted for the real life use. I can also confirm "old wives' advices" by my tests. When you lower the DoD to 80% DoD you get significantly better cycle life results and then even Samsung 30Q will be a good choice. As an example HG2 is dead after 1000 cycles at 100% DoD, but at 80% DoD (lowering the charging voltage from 4.2V to 4.1V) it now have 2200 cycles and still running.

Yes, my mistke...Its HG2....not HB2. :?

Thanks for interesting and valuable experience. My first question after that, what would happend with more extreme test ?
That cells are 20A and 30A max. Since it will be used in only 6P batt configuration with motor with up to 6kW...they will often have to give much more then 0,5-1C. I am not saing that is will bee too often but I think that is very different from constant 1C.

In technical spec. I found that is VTC6 has less internal resistance then HG2...good for boost (minimal voltage drop):
VTC6 - 12mOhm
HG2 - 20mOhm
30Q - 26mOhm

Main question...and the poent is...Is batt pack with VTC 6 vorth 108 eur more then batt pack with HB2...or not :D ? You get more pick power (VTC6 is 30A...HG2 is 20A), smaller drop voltage and a some km more...But, is lifetime VTC 6 is less then HB2 under "real life" conditions?
