Hey all, I ordered a MXUS 3k-TURBO v3 3 turn 26” motor kit off of alibaba a month ago. It hasn’t arrived yet however after further research, I realize I may have chosen the wrong type of motor. It’s going on a 26” MTB frame. I have a 72v 30ah (20s6p) battery rated for 80a cont, 240a peak. My question is, would it be fine to throw in ferrofluid and hubsinks or should I return my kit after it arrives? I’d like to avoid this if possible. I want to cruise around at low speed (25-30mph) and get up to 45-55mph occasionally. The motor won't run more than 1-3% less efficiently than a different winding per kilowatt inputted.
The problem is that this is way too fast for a motor that's actually ~2.5kw rated for a 26" wheel. it might do 60mph or more.
You will probably want 100A battery amps max and ferrofluid is a very good idea.
A 4T would have still required ferrofluid in this wheel size, on that voltage.

I see, I’m going to run statorade and a diy sort of hubsink. Hopefully with that combo I can run around 150-200 phase amps without overheating? I believe the motor has a temp sensor so we’ll see how it goes.

It's not the instantaneous amps on that motor, it's the top cruising speed where you will need the most help thermally.

The motor itself is 2.5kw continuous
With ferrofluid and hubsink, you should be able double that from a thermal perspective.
With the downside being that the motor can now run way out of it's ideal efficiency band.

50mph = ~4kw cont <-- very likely safe to do all day with the thermal improvements.
60mph = ~8kw cont

Therefore i would make these moments where you're doing >50mph to be kinda short, maybe a mile or two.
Otherwise it should be totally fine at lower speeds.

Switching to a 22" or 24" rim would help a lot... efficiency of this stator design peaks around a 20" wheel and starts to suck around 26" wheel sizes.

Gotcha, im definitely not going to be running around at highway speeds for several miles at a time, that helps a lot, thanks.

Mount it in a 24" wheel.
