I am getting pissed !

Decided on getting Specialized Hemisphere Armadillo tires after reading reviews and suggestions at this forum.

What's with these friggin tires? Jenson, Nashbar, etc don't even carry Specialized tires of any model.

You get to some stores - we don't ship these, come to our store for pickup. Everything else they ship... what gives, are they loaded with some toxic chemical?

The other third of the "internet" bike stores don't even list shipping. Already sent an email to 1, no answer.

Ah ha - go to specialized.com Aww crap - we don't ship to APO/FPO

Shipping to my brother, who forwards it - Not unless I want to wait 2-3 months before he gets around to it. :?

whats the issue with APO/FPO mail? I can forward you some armadilos (provided my local bike shop has stock).

Marcus (at walkers wheels - who was so nice to lend me an old spoke tool) finds the specalized fly out the door!.

I appreciate the offer, but after trying for my first choice - Maxxis hookworms (too big to fit), Specialized Hemispheres (as said, couldn't find), Geax evolution (out of stock) I settled on Maxxis "Holy Rollers".

I wanted to get some good tires before my batteries arrived. Was hoping for the flat proof ie some model of Specialized Armadillos that were for the street (not big knobbies). From the reviews Armadillos are "THE THING" to get. Think I read about all the reviews. They should be selling like hotcakes.

Mostly just venting, which I should think before I do. Spent all Saturday morning and early afternoon just to get a 3rd choice tire.

The APO/FPO mail is for US military overseas. Usually counted as local US address, but one has to use USPS (NOT UPS or Fedex). Some companies won't ship to APO/FPO addresses.

Ah, these:

I suggest a soft kevlar liner (not the hard plastic-y kind), like this:

and a thick downhill tube, like one of these (whichever fits the tire's width):

This combo with the Maxxis Hookworm has been flat-free for me for 2000 miles and counting.

Thanks for another good source Xyster. They ship APO also. Notice that they don't carry Specialized tires either.

Think the Holy Rollers will be okay? Would have got the hookworms, but when I got to measuring, don't think it would have fit. Believe the HRs at 2.2 will.

I got the Slime regular tubes. Figured they would work, just didn't put as much research in as I did for the tires..

At 2.5", the Hookworms could be too wide -- especially for the front. The 24" and 26" Hookworms also have a very high profile -- about an inch taller than normal tires. Maxxis makes a tire with a kevlar belt, the 1.75" overdrive:

I'm planning on replacing my OEM front tire with either this Overdrive, or a specialized armadillo, AND use the panaracer kevlar liner too since I already have it. I'm also thinking the panaracer liner provides more actual kevlar than the amount inside the tire.

I've had no problems with any of my orders from universalcycles.com. They're based in Portland, Oregon, near me.

I and others here have had problems with the valves on regular thickness-tubes cracking at the point the valve meets the tube. The slime probably won't help if the valve busts off. That said, Slime makes thick slime tubes too:
