This is my first E-Bike Build. Started with a Specialized Hardrock Prodisc 2004 (which I bought from Craigslist for $350). Before providing details, I want to thank the staff at Luna Cycle in California for being so courteous and providing detailed guidance as I was purchasing their BBS02 kit. Awesome guys! The project turned out great, and the bike rides great.
Modifications to the Bike -
- Replaced rear cassette, chain, and rear derailleur (total under US $50)
- Replaced ball bearings and re-greased head-stock, front and rear hub assembly, pedals (under US $15)
- Replaced handle grips and seat with more ergonomic ones
E-bike Conversion Items (purchased as a kit from Luna Cycle for $1,100 including battery)
- Bafang BBS02 750W
- 44T chain wheel
- gear sensor
- magnetic sensor e-brake cut-off
- C965 display
- universal thumb throttle
- 48v Panasonic 11.5ah Carbon Shark Pack Battery
- 48V Advanced 300W Luna Charger
The total project cost (excluding sweat equity) was under $1,550. The only customization that I did was to come up with a different way to install the e-brake magnetic cut-off. I will post those pictures soon.
