Speed Limits of Skateboards

Was wondering why most of the production boards seem to limit speed at 20mph or lower in the USA? Are there federal regulations about this? Are they more state specific?

Also is there a way around this say if someone wanted to make the Porsche or Ferrari of electric powered skateboards? Like full custom builds similar to the aftermarket for performance cars, etc.

Something about the max speed of a electric bicycle is only 20mph legally. For this reason, everyone makes boards that only go about 20mph only.

Also for legal issues as well. There aren't any companies that build a ferrari eboard but you could build your own with parts readily available.

That is what I thought. Does not seem to hard to go well above 20mph.

Would be interested if there is a way to market a board with serious performance similar to what Stealth or Optibike does saying they are "offroad" only.

Doesn't look like that limit has stopped ebike builders from building bikes that go 40mph plus.

True. Baja Board tried building something similar. They still are kind of which is priced at about $3-5k or something.

Baja boards looks interesting. Looks like 1/5 RC vehicle shocks and drivetrain similar to the HPI Baja 5B setup.

I would be more interested in something designed around street performance not truly offroad. Offroad is just a disclaimer.

I think this is not the only issue, a skateboard is an exotic vehicle and handling can be an issue.

Maybe most companies prefer to provide something usable in cities while escaping sues possibilities.

But I won't be the devils devil's lawyer, I crave for speed without compromises

I see what you mean, well it's a bad habit of mine to love speeding, for example I've been speeding while skiing, well of course you feel all g forces directly through your body but since I love quick runs when I drive a sporty car and when the area's conditions allow it, and because you go way faster in a car than on skis, I kinda feel slow on skis. And I'm to blame because I'm no professional skier, I can't reach an athlete speed where of course I'd be satisfied.

But still if I successfully learn to go as fast as them I'll be plenty happy.

I'm not sure to be really clear there
