Stary Board on KS

Well if the

-parts are too flimsy
-the planetary gear gets slippery lube on the drive wheel
-the plantary gear creaks like a haunted house

then only have to change one letter to become the

SCARY Board!!!!

Just in time for Halloween ;)

The planetary gearset has a lot of promise. Particularly in that you could theoretically swap gear sets to optimize your experience (acceleration, range, top seed, etc)

I was just about to preorder an inboard.. I am very n00b when it comes to electric longboards and have never even ridden a non powered one. Can any experts compare the Stary vs the Inboard?

From my point of view this is what i am seeing:

-Stary is approximately 1/3 the price
-Inboard has replaceable batteries, more riding, longer lasting board assuming the motors last and you can replace the battery
-Inboard is domestic, maybe better support?
-Inboard has dual motors, more traction, more power, no torque steer (is torque steer even a thing on a long board?)
-Inboard has an app with user adjustable parameters, Stary has a remote with a screen
-Inboard can function as a phone charger (who really cares, but it's a difference, haha)
-Inboard has headlights and tail lights (again, not big, but it's a difference)
-Stary claims to be lighter
-Stary claims to deliver 3 months faster

Both seem like great boards and decent options. I like the Stary because of the price and weight.

Although, the inboard does look pretty cool. I was thinking of buying it but decided against it due to the price of the board.

Guess, it just depends on what you prefer.

I am wondering about shipping costs and lead times.. I asked them on kickstarter and their reddit thread, I'll post here if they reply.

I think shipping was $69 to US.

Where was that listed?

Once you back it on Kickstarter you are given the shipping cost. (didn't realize this until I went through the process)

They replied to my question about the shipping.. For a single board it's $80 and for the two pack it's $128. Also asked them if you bought two boards if you could ride them side by side and they said yes.

6s 4200mah lipo is what they are using. I'm actually disappointed in the board now. :?
what were you expecting? what is ideal?
i have an e-go, let me go n check to see what it has.

I'm disappointed in the lipo aspect. I was expecting 6S 5ah or close. E-go actually has more battery and uses 18650. But perhaps to get the size really small they did have to go with lipo flat packs.
Not sure, maybe this was a way to get a good balance between discharge rate, size, range and price? Usually 18650 cells take less space than Lipo at equal specs but high discharge 18650 cells are expensive :|

Sorry to get off-topic, but can someone recommend a good crash course or comparison for battery configuration and chemistry online?

What kind of battery are you expecting then?

I was hoping 18650 but they want a real thin board which is understandable, I guess... It's the question which we always have trouble actually coming to an actual answer.

I've come to terms with it though. lol

Their goal is simply a real thin longboard which looks as if it was just a longboard but with electrical capabilities.

It works.. but it's a big difference between Do you want a powerhouse (dual motor)? Do you want 20 mile range? Do you want the lightest board possible and lowest range to be just like a longboard.

I backed it because of price and weight. I was gonna get an inboard for commuting, but at 1/3 of the price, 4 months faster (allegedly) and a few pounds lighter I think it'll be worth it... hopefully.

And.. if you can 'peel back the grip tape and replace the battery' maybe we can modify it to fit some better batteries after the stock ones die.

Thinking about getting the Stary but concern about the Hub motor and thin lipped wheel. I wonder how it feel like riding on it. But for the price, i guess its not bad even tho it looks like a bootleg Busted board.
Has anyone tried the mellow or inboard yet?

Stary , isn’t the first company to come up with electronic skateboards, founder and CEO Rex Chen is the first to admit that.

But he is part of a group of entrepreneurs that are under he limelight in China right now; post-90’s gen entrepreneurs. And according to Chen, it’s high time they took the lead in shaking off the country’s copycat stereotype.

“People think we’re copycats, but no.” says Chen, referring to entrepreneurs in China. “Post 90s’ are no copy cats, rather we love creating something new and better.”
