Hi
Last night my tilting trike was stolen. Battery was not on the bike at theft.

Cycle analyst+shunt
Cycle lumenator
Controller
Magura throttle
Revolt 100 motor
Hydraulic discbrakes
Sturdy homebuilt wheels 36spoke rear 48spoke front.

Just for the slim possibility it shows up somewhere.
Very saddening and frustrating.

The bike doesnt look exactly as the picture, since the picture is before some later improvments/rebuilds, but the most is accurate.

i found a stolen bike at the curb yesterday morning. i posted up a lost and found recovered ad on CL but got no reply.

i had taken my heaviest cable and lock and locked it to the stop sign on the corner of the bicycle street at the end of my block. i figured someone would see it and tell the owner.

overnight, someone cut my lock and stole the bike again off of the stop sign. less than 15 hours before it was stolen again. took my lock and cable too.

every homeless guy around here seems to have bolt cutters and rides the finest full suspension bike money can buy.

I am deeply saddened at the loss of your project, which clearly took a great deal of time, effort, and money to put together. The prototype shownis my favorite style to populate the inside of a velomobile. I very much hope you can get it back soon, so that you can proceed with your development efforts...you are very talented.

If your lock can be cut with a bolt cutter than it means it's not strong enough!
Get the kryptonite 18mm of hardened steel!

Sorry to hear about that. For the record, your bike looks wicked awesome! I hope you get it back, Sweden isn't the largest country.

Great news,
Hope its all there.... :D

Still not much of a challenge for a cordless angle grinder with a cut off disc !

i was gonna go take the bike off the stop sign overnight because i thought this might happen but spaced it out and by the time i got there the next morning it was gone. wasn't even my bike but i was pissed.

the city is gonna move the homeless camp over here to my neighborhood because all the rich people downtown finally talked the city into buying them a riverfront development lot so they are able to erect all their homeless huts along the sides of the street where a lotta people, girls especially all ride their bikes to get downtown. so now there will be even more thefts and rapes because of this. seems like all of them are high. most appeared to be junkies when they took over the city park during the occupy portland riots.

Isn't it the one that any newbie can open with a plastic pen ?

Never seen a lock that little robbers can't open in a few minutes.

I have seen a prank on TV, where a guy was making hell of a noise cutting a bike lock with an angle grinder on a crowded place. No one interfered, they just looked at him stealing the bike and ride away.

i read a story of how someone used a chainsaw to cut down a tree that some guy had his bike locked onto. at night. in NYC.

neighbors were upset over the loss of the tree. complained about bicyclists locking bikes to trees.

Yep, here it is common that young robbers are cutting a small tree at night if a bike is locked on it. The city have a team that is taking bikes that are locked to trees, and giving them to a community bicycle recycling shop. Same for any bike that is parked on the sidewalk in the winter, when they clean the snow.

Bicycle robbery is growing, but I have heard of only 2 ebikes stolen in the last 4 years and one was recovered before the owner noticed it was missing. Robbers do like ordinary looking bikes, that they sell quickly for 40$ to buy dope. When a bike does stand out, it is much safer from being robbed but it could be stripped of its expansive components if it is parked in a dark spot.

I want to hear more of how you got the bike back. Facebook ?

+1 and more pictures would be great :D

Yes FB. Several hundred people shared it and then some road worker found it close to a road, abandoned with the chain disengaged. (pedalchain)
In this case it is pretty clear that the thief was some drunk guy coming home from a party saturday night and had a long way home. Then dumped the bike when the chain disengaged. No harm to the bike.
The battery "briefcase" was not on the bike so it had to be pedaled manually. Which is quite tedious work as it only have one high gear.

The centrifugal clutch is of this type:
http://www.kartbuilding.net/PlAnS/centrifugal_clutches_overview.jpg

The inside of it consists of 6segments if i recall. There are no pivotpoints for them, they just lay in there with a spring that goes around them all in a groove. Holding them together.
In the picture you can see the backside of the clutch where the plate in bent in between the segments at 3 spots to make sure they dont rotate with the bell.
I changed the stock spring, which was very stiff, to a spring that basically only can hold the segments' own weight. So engagement starts from close to 0 rpm.

Bad sketch to clarify.
centrifugal%20clutch_zpsaf6jkmdz.jpg

This particular clutch would need heavier segments for this application tho, as the clutch will slip alot under 25km/h. And acceleration is pretty weak.
Above 25km/h it will have grip enough to alter the motors rpm for a 1-1 connection. (This is with the current limitation of 30A i use)
The large amount of slipping also means metallic dust that is bad for the motor.

I have had better results with centrifugal clutches on higher revving smaller motors.
This motor is a 49kV revolt 100 old model. At 12s it wont see much more than maybe 2300 rpm (at full charge), and the clutch with the stock spring is meant to engage close to 2000rpm if i recall correctly.
More commonly ised on IC engines that rev alot more.

So to sum up, a centrifugal clutch is awesome when setup right,.but it only provides a crucial function if the motor used is too weak to handle startup torque required.

Thanks, I see. I've wanted to buy one just to see if it can be adapted to my use. I played with the idea of making an automatic transmission.

You live in Sundsvall, Sweden,
just curious,
who would still bicycle in such place?
immigrants?
It is not even Stockholm.
