i have a tadpole trike, steel frame with mesh and strap seat...ruuff...i feel every crack and bump.... SOLUTION... bought some high density foam[40"x17"x2"]took it to an upholsterer and had it covered[had ties added to ho9ld it in place]... i float.. cloud nine.....$20.00 fot the foam,$100.00 cover material and labor

+1. When I purchased my trike, I included an optional pad that was uncovered, and meant to be slipped into the space between the mesh you sit on and the ties. However, when I put that huge 9C on as a mid drive, my weight caused the seat to sag down to the motor. By removing the foam insert, the mesh took up the sag, and solved the problem. So next, I just placed the foam on top of the mesh, held on with one strap around everything where the seat bends. I liked the feel better than when the foam was under the seat. I recently picked up a yellow terry bath towel for $5 and just wrapped it around the foam and strapped the whole thing back on. Even better. My wife has offered to sew up a terry pillow case for it, but I'm not sure I need to bother.

I'm going to see if I can find a link to the foam pad I used, and I'll post it below:

Um....my homebuilt trike had a rear shock and it makes a huge difference in helping my back not get destroyed. The Steintrike has a full suspension and really makes a huge difference on big bumps and dips like water run-off concrete ditches on almost all the roads here. Mad Max is a bit of a luxury but it actually is my apartment in Korfu, my 265GTB Ferrari and my 18 YO mistress that I keep in her own place NOT! The suspension just like on a good downhill bike really makes a big difference in controllability and comfort. No regrets at all.

I use a shorty Thermorest pad strapped around the mesh seat in two places - it will bend at the inflection point in the seat. It is nice as the inflation is adjustable, and it is definitely a much warmer ride in the winter. And you can remove it easily in the summer if it is too hot. Plus you can use it as your sleeping pad on a tour. You might have to wipe it though, if it got soaked in a downpour.
