I would put it where the greatest potential for for heat accumulation is, so somewhere in the middle/core of the battery.

If the worst performing cell is also likely to generate the most unwanted heat too?? a round of charge discharge tests on the cells to be used could be advantageous, placing the sensor on such a cell in an accessible position in the final pack may also have merit?
