Tesla acquires maxwell - why Luke?

Old thread.....thought I'd update it.
Headline: "Tesla sells Maxwell Technologies since it does not plan to use ultracapacitor technology"

"Musk further explains that the secret ingredient to lowering cost of lithium-ion batteries is “dry electrode”. It is one of the many pieces of the puzzle in the cost reduction of li-ion batteries, several of which he explained during the Battery Day presentation and further explained by Sandy Munro in one of his videos.

Tesla has taken the dry electrode technology blueprint from Maxwell and has further invested in its development heavily, “it has required an *immense* amount of engineering to take Maxwell’s proof-of-concept to high-quality, volume production & we’re still not quite done,” Musk stated on Twitter."

Was that “Dry electrode” tech intended for use in the 4680 cell ?
And has anyone seen (tested ?) a commercial 4680 cell yet ?.....or will 2022 be the first time it is seen in public

I know of a member here who is testing 4680s, but it's not me, and I can't say more about it. It's getting to be less rare to see that can format in labs.

But would that be a “Tesla” 4680, or from some other manufacturer ?
I am expecting the Tesla version to be a different technology to others ..(dry electrode ?)

Sorry my friend, I can't comment on any details about it. You can guess who is leading.

Hard to guess who is leading, since BAK announced their cell was availabe last year, and also Panasonic , LG, etc are known to be planning production ( for Tesla ?) also.
We know that Tesla are running tests in vehicles, but also that Musk has recently stated “ more work” is required before commercialisation. ?
As is usual, i am sure there will be a range of chemistry’s and performance, from the common 4680 format.
Time will reveal all !
