Has Thane C. Heins from Ontario Canada done the same thing; has he discovered a law of physics hereto unknown but intriguing enough to spur the imagination for some modern-day Teslas? MIT thinks so, as do a host of other legitimate laboratories. And so does Thane.
If you had invented an electric motor/generator that can actually help drive itself, you could be sure other EV engineers [like me] might take notice of this 'device'. And that's just what Thane has done; in laymen's terms he has a 'device' that has figured out a way to take the magnetic resistant forces produced by a permanent magnet generator (aptly called EMF; Electro Motive Force) to work for, not against the generator.

Cute little perpetual motion machine. One thing I noticed, he shows the volts coming out of the Variac (big blue transformer with knob on top) which apparently is the power feed for the device, but never shows how many amps are coming out of it. Gotta have both numbers to get power draw.

I'll believe that when I can make one that does the same thing.
I've seen many similar claims on devices in the past. They all turned out to be hoaxes.
I DO wish it was true, but then again, they never showed input vs. output. Maybe it's horribly inefficient in the 'regular' mode, and just gets a little more efficient when the other mode is engaged.
 
I can think of multiple ways you could make a device that speeds up when you connect a second pair of wires, even if you connect them through a series load.


There is a simple way we know its a hoax.

The sketchy insturmentation. If you had something, you would instrument it properly to show it.
 
In early 2008, Heins was given access to equipment to demonstrate it by professor Riadh Habash of the University of Ottawa, who says of it, "It accelerates, but when it comes to an explanation, there is no backing theory for it. That's why we're consulting MIT. But at this time we can't support any claim."[8]

After examining the machine and witnessing a demonstration, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor Markus Zahn admitted that he could not fully explain its operation. Although he refused to call it perpetual motion, he stated that it might be an extremely efficient motor.[9] Regarding the device, Zahn stated that "It's an unusual phenomena [sic] I wouldn't have predicted in advance. But I saw it. It's real. Now I'm just trying to figure it out...To my mind this is unexpected and new, and it's worth exploring all the possible advantages once you're convinced it's a real effect."[10] However, even if Perepiteia does not produce perpetual motion, Zahn still believes that the device could have considerable practical applications, noting that "There are an infinite number of induction machines in people's homes and everywhere around the world. If you could make them more efficient, cumulatively, it could make a big difference."[7]

Like the Steorn thing, it seems more of interest as a psycho-sociological phenomenon.
 
Well, if it's not a perpetual motion device, then it's just a generator. Present day generator designs can approach 98% efficient. Not much improvement is possible.

The greater the load - the greater the acceleration, i.e. maximum acceleration is created when the generator coils are shorted = maximum load.

This principle will be employed by PDI to create a bicycle trailer that will house a RM generator and the on-load generator created accelerative torque will be designed to exceed the torque produced by the bicycle rider and the bike and trailer will accelerate down the road with NO ADDITIONAL RIDER INPUT ENERGY or any additional energy of any kind.

The proof of concept goals steps are:

1) Mount a three rotor 20 pole Axial Flux generator on the bike trailer shown below.
2) Design the generator coils to produce acceleration at 10 - 15 km/hr.
3) At the required operating speed the generator coils will all be maximally loaded creating the maximum accelerative torque.
4) The torque supplied by the generator will be designed to exceed the required steady state speed torque and the system will accelerate WITHOUT bike rider assistance.

Performance criteria to be met:

1) The RM must create enough torque to overcome all resistive forces and self-propell itself.
2) Rotor magnet strength will be increased if required.
3) The RM acceleration must be sustainable with no excessive coil or core heating problems.

Timeline and budget:

Trailer $1000.00
Magnets $1600.00
Coil cores $500.00
Magnet wire $300.00
Mounting materials $ 500.00
Shop charges / welding fabrication etc. $2000.00
Miscellaneous $1000.00
Total cost: $7000.00
Expected project deliverable timetable: 6 months / delivery date January 1, 2012

Does it use "Back to the Future" flux-capacitor technology or old school Star Trek di-lithium crystals?

Also, which alternate universe are we extracting energy from? It must come from somewhere. Something never comes from nothing.

Being serious for one minute though.

All of these things, outlandish or otherwise, should be investigated. Even if 99.9999 of them turn out to be worthless - that tiny fraction that does succeed could change the course of human history.

The biggest question I have is: If the whole thing will only cost $7000, why is he looking for multiple sponsors?

Surely he's got at least one friend who could write a check for that amount, or it would even be fairly easy to get that kind of limit on one or more credit cards. If he can't even figure out how to do such small financing, I can't see him figuring out how to build a good perpetual motion machine.

I think the operative word here is 'down' as in 'down the hill'
 
Why does the bare trailer cost $1000? I'd grab a wike trailer kit for $129 instead.

I guess he's too stupid to comparison shop, yet just smart enough to make a perpetual motion machine. Odd how that works.

Background of Potential Difference Inc. PDI is a Clean-Tech/Energy R & D company which was founded by Thane Heins and incorporated in 2005.
