Operable pedals allows it to qualify as a bicycle in Iowa. It would be slick for commuters.

mehhh... no room for a passenger. Looks like the pedals might provide mechanical advantage versus the "classic" foot bike aka adult kick scooter, but my only experience with standups are with power-assist and that provides plenty of... advantage :) I like being able to shift my stance around on longer trips. It provides sort of a break versus being "locked" in one position. W/this Me-Mover that's not an option. I also wonder how easy it might be for a foot to slip off a pedal with a bump wattever... Standing on a large(r) deck ie a Currie scooter this has never been a concern.

Pretty much a smaller version of "Stepper Bike" - http://www.randyrrross.com/products/img/diablo/pic/diablo.jpg

I'm with Lock about the need for anything more than a push/kick here or there with your leg but if you wanted a workout and assistance...

That stepper bike is nice - I have to try one, I am standing on the pedals for most of my rides anyhow. I see the me-mover more like a human-powered segway, an alternative to walking not a cycling alternative, so its a a different demographic. Plus it folds up so you don't have to leave it to be stolen, and it is stable on 3 wheels. Sort of an alternative to the Strida below for folks that don't ride:

Great to see our Me-Mover on the forum!
I have tried stepper bikes, and I can tell you the Me-Mover is a lot more cool to drive, since the cambering design gives you quite a skiing like experience when taking corners. apart from that we have worked a LOT on the transmission to get a natural feeling when pushing down the pedals. IN our new model, we are moving to pedals, for even better grip and handling, we found ourselves "dancing" on the former rigid "pedal surfaces" when getting up in speed.

I really like the Strida! The me-mover is a little shorter when folded, and is able to use as atrolley (that can "stand" on its own wothout toppling over"

Best from a icy Copenhagen!

@lock
concerning your questions- it is tru you cannot move your foot around to much n the pedals- though we have some quite bige pedal plates now- 50% longer than large bmx pedals if you know them,
I have not noticed any slipping issues when riding over bumps or so.. we'll post some images on the pedals when we get the new ones mounted :)
we also are implementing a simple non binding strap- so that your foot are even better secured- the main reason for this is that you have better control of the lifting movement of the pedals- which is essential when you are going fast

@ oatnet; human powered segway is quite a good term.. and it in that sense is competing to strida, a-bike or alikes and segways... we are struggling to positioning the me-mover correctly so we REALLY appreciate this kind of input- who would buy it, and for which reasons. more of that!

and- have a great weekend!

Now, want to see it electrified?

I'm sure someone here would put a nice little hub motor on it for you, with a battery system to boot.

You pay for materials for two bikes and electricals, they send you back one electric me-mover!

Idea? Hmmm?

Motor would be limited to low speed only of course.

Just a short note- after years and years of development, test (and constant fundraising) we have released on kickstarter: http://kck.st/1pzHVmp

electric version next year!

All!
years ago the Me-Mover was posted here, in prototype stage. And boy did it take os a LOT longer time to finalize product and production than we though. We have now launched on Kickstarter to raise money for first volume production run. have a look http://kck.st/1pzHVmp

electric version next year if all things come together (and foldable cargo bike addition, my personal favourite!)
