Neat. i like those add on heatsinks especially the water cooled ones.

nice to see that you occasionaly outside of your LRK group. by the way thanks to you and some of the articles on the LRK group i was able to rewind a couple of my hub motors. many thanks.

the more traditional ebike/scooter controllers are usually inside of metal cases already. problem is they are usually too small to dissipate the heat. An external heatsink helps a lot.

but buying them can get to be expensive. my solution - Recycle & Re-Use. the local metal recycler has the scrap metal separated into piles. steel, aluminum, brass, copper etc. while i was rummaging through the Aluminum pile looking for some plates i found a buch of heatsinks from old computer CPUs. i bought a bunch of them for about 50cents a pound. the whole lot in the picture was less than a buck and a half.

Add to that Dewalt servicing centers that find it cheaper just to sell returned damaged batteries locally.

obviously you need a better class of scrap yard. ours just looks like piles of metal junk, mostly compacted cars. then there are smaller piles of other materials. he keeps also keeps larger, useful chunks separated into drums. i just rumage through the drums for bits that i can use. it's a lot cheaper than paying full price.

It is really annoying that Dewalt service centers pay (1) to ship their returned batteries back to Dewalt, where they probably pay (2) again to ship them a second time for recycling which they pay (3) for instead of selling them for a reasonable price or giving them away locally. Its insane (both financially and environmentally), to pay to ship and dispose of cells that are worth money and in high demand.

Link you gotta head north and go to Santa Rosa. There is a REALLY cool recycling place up there.
