Hi all; hoping someone might have an answer to this.
Is there a stock firmware of the 500w version of the TSDZ8 milling about on the internet I can find?
(Background)
I'm trying to figure out the differences between the 500w version of the TSDZ8, and the 750w version of the TSDZ8.
Here in Canada, we are legally limited to 500w nominal (not max) wattage of the motor, as listed by the manufacturer. Much of the stock available here (Varstrom resellers, or other resellers on Amazon) are the 750w versions.
I've reached out to Tongsheng, as well as to other reselling companies (ie: Varstrom, Senopower) about what the differences between the two motors are, without response.
(What I think is the issue)
From what I have been able to cobble together online, it looks like the 500w version is the same motor as a 750w version, but with different firmware settings installed that limits the motor's output to 500w (street mode) rather than 750w. This would make sense, a bit like how I think Bafang does it with their BBS02; why sell two different motor controllers and have to manage inventory of all this, when you could just reprogram the stock firmware depending on the area it is being sold in.
From what I can see from the open-source firmware, this seems to be the case; there's a section that limits the overall power of the motor to 500w nominal; this could also allow Tongsheng to limit even further to 250w for some EU countries...
... That being said, I'm thinking of purchasing a 750w version, but I would need to find the 500w updated firmware to "downgrade" it to meet legal requirements. Since Tongsheng do label the motor as 500 / 750w, I could then have a label printed indicating the motor / ebike is in compliance with Canadian law.
(what should I do?)
Before I go down the rabbit hole of trying to find stock 500w firmware; I just want to be 100% sure that this is the case, and it's not a case of "Oh, well it is 500w if you pair it with a 36v battey system, and 750w if it's on a 48 volt battery system".
Thanks all for any suggestions or recommendations...
