I there a good tutorial for the GUI Edward Lyen sends with his controllers. He lists the functions of the GUI but the list is not much more than the labels on the software boxes, no descriptions of functionality or recommendations for tuning.
Also Is there any open source software that might be more intuitive, that is compatible with his controllers (I just purchased a 9 FET 4110 unit )
Thanks

The software Lyen has is the generic open source Keywin E-bike Lab software for programing the Infineon controller chipset. It's not his software, It's opensource software released by Infineon in chinese, and later translated by someone else. He just provides a copy of it. As far as I know, Infineon never released any documentation on the software. Lyen does have a decent explanation of what the various functions do, on his website. You kind of need an advanced knowledge of motors to understand much of how this works. http://www.lyen.com/Manual/Program_Definitions.htm

XPD is another software package for the Infineon controller. Its the one I use, and has some short explanations of the buttons on the hover tool tips. Its slightly better for me software as actualu works on my laptop, and Ebike lab wont. Also, I could program the Speed 1 setting to 0%, and the Keywin software would fail to load if I set it below 30%

I don't believe there's a tutorial per se. Possibly because it's actually not as difficult/complicated as it 1st appears.

The main conundrum for me is/was being unable to suck current code from the controller and save for backup in the event I did something stoopid and rendered the unit unusable.

That does not appear to be possible so I patiently asked Edward for a copy of "my" Flash-file which he cheerfully provided. Although in retrospect I was probably being overly cautious.

Yes, there are other programs that do pretty much the same thing but as a computer-idiot I'm not in the habit of looking to add more variables to my already limited environment/understanding.

What's your motor, battery configuration and intended use? Perhaps we can offer some ideas to help you get started? I program an older and newer 9 FET from time to time. The main thing is start with correct board configuration printed on a label stuck on the controller.

Wow thanks for the quick replies
I saw the Infineon PDF posted in the first page of the Controller info thread and realized it has the same GUI as the one Edward has so I gathered his are basically Infineons.
I have had a YesCom 36v 800wat rear kit on a cheap full suspension bike for just over a year. I run hobbypartz lipos in 10s and 12s 10AH sets. and I bought the 9FET 4110 Mark 2 sensored controller. Mainly to be able to run the 5s packs I now have as 20s with amp limiting as the 12s setup has spoiled me! (or speed limiting when I get the CA -SA modified with a 6 wire connector).
I had a fit trying to get the thing wired correctly to run but eventually Edward told me the LVC setting on my controller had been modified so as to run 20s. So even though I was testing with a 45 volt battery and the unit was programmed for 37 volt LVC I never got any results. I set the LVC way down (his request before returning it) and it ran. Then I was told to basically divide what I wanted for LVC to 3/4 for the software. WHO KNEW?
I will get back after perusing the links you have provided if I have questions about what to set for things like "phase current" etc.
Thanks again, Alex

The problem that seems to show more than anything is getting communication started, different pinouts for different version controllers, and there are a few posts about using different operating systems issues.
