I wonder if it really add improovement to split the phase wire into multiple parallel one? like this solar car team are doing on the cisro ?

It could certainly help cooling the wires, if that was a problem with single larger ones, as they have more surface area that way. But I doubt that's a problem.

It'd be easier to physically handle the wires, since big thick ones with normal wire would be pretty stiff, and the more flexible cable might be more expensive. So a bunch of smaller wires might be cheaper.

Cost might be the other reason--if they already had a bunch fo wire with the right qualities but just not large enough, they could've used it just to save money, leaving what they had avaialbe for things they *had* to buy.

The only other thing it would help is routing the wires, since you could pass a lot of small wires thru a flat clamp or space between box sides, etc., easier than a big thick one.

which solar car team is that, weblink?
going to need very deep pockets for that setup

My buddy Biff had a couple of the CISRO motors, and said the thermal path was so poor, they melt down at just a couple KW continuous.

That gear is far from the ultimate motor/controller combo for anyone into hot rodding and high performance. It's more of the ultimate if you only have XX watt-hours to go XX miles.
