It occured to me that it would be very useful to have a test device that was a universal test device for virtually any brushed and brushless motors, hall effect throttles, and perhaps even for testing circuits are ok on motors. This would be especially valuable for controllers, to see that they are working properly, by merely plugging in the (6 wires?, 3 3 or 4 for the hall effect sensors, and two or 3 for the power out put and the 2 for power input?) perhaps something as big as the average size multimeter, but with special adaptation for this purpose to make the task be done faster and more efficiently, and even giving data on what elements within the controler are not working properly?

There is such a device for brushless motors, controllers, and throttles.

I bought mine from Lyens, but they are also on ebay. VERY handy to have.

I guess a brushed controller could just be tested with a voltmeter, or a motor. Yes or no, it has current flowing. Brushed motors can be tested by hooking up to a 12v battery. spins, it's good.

Is this the tester you have? Trying to identify a model name/number and where to buy them, get them.

I found a thread on this topic on ES through the description on the second video:

I will take a look there to see more info.

csm,

Can I respectfully ask that you search yourself rather than ask others to search for you?

Searching is fairly easy, either using the forum search facility or using Google with a specific website search (the latter tends to be better).

This was the first hit when I searched for this on your behalf: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20413

The trouble I had is figuring out what key words to use for the search. In this case i used "lyon controller tester" and found a video that someone made that used those words, and then found another video made that linked back to ES in their description.

I think I have just made the cognitive breakthrough in understanding the workings of the brushless motor. Watching the tester light up while spinning the wheel.. all the hours I have been spending doing research online(web pages, videos, etc), thinking about how it works. It is now making more and more sense. This website describing the difference between a "star" and "delta" wiring for a brushless motor has helped too: http://home.solcon.nl/gjkool/brushlessE5.html and many of the people of the ES community have helped as well. I am glad I didn't chuck out some of those brushless motors I have in which I fried the controllers on or which I found that I was not able to get to work (mainly because I didn't know how they worked at the time, but thought I would be able to learn how they worked eventually, and could use them).

Yeah, that's the one I have.

Try "brushless motor tester" search on ebay for other vendors than Lyens.

I don't mind lots of questions, but was doing other things last week. Had the Tour of California on TV, plus watching the Giro de Italia on the web. This week just the Giro, so I'll be on the job here more again.

Searching this forum is pretty hard. But if you can narrow down what section you want to search, then use the search box for that section only it helps. Going to for sale new, then searching motor tester there should get you to Lyens for sale thread.

So far, of the couple videos I have seen of this tester being used, it have not shown what it looks like when testing a working controller or throttle. And the people using it seem to not be sure if it is working or that it is connected correctly. I am hoping I will see someone post a video that is more of a tutorial on using it and showing what the test looks like on a working controller, and a working motor (stator and hall effect sensors), and working throttle.

Did you look at the link I searched out for you above? There are instructions that make it clear how it works in that thread. Here's a link specifically to the post in that thread with them in (to save you doing what I've just done for you, searched for the information again within that link): http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20413&start=15#p307572
