motorised Brompton aka Brromptonâ„¢ ©

hello all I though you may be intrested in a project i have been working on for over a year, which is based on a dream to see the world…

Thus I invented the Brromptonâ„¢ © to enable such dreams.

please see photos for explanation.

Total mileage, stopped counting at a 1000,
Top speed, too fast for a responsible adult (≥28)
Weight, around 20kg
Range (with engine tank), 23-35 miles
Range (with one gallon tank and engine tank), 138-205 miles (for some long tours which arent really capable on current batteries....jealous? )
Pedal assistance is required
Max climbing angle, with BWR 3 speed hub I’ve had no problems
Max one day tour, over 120 miles

I have also tailored the other aspects of the bicycle outside the engine etc design, some I changed and then some I change back. It took time to get to a point where I realised changing anything else would be a detrimental. Ill just wait for 349 mm off road tyres until then its walking , which is plesent dont forget people.

(Additionally: this work is my intellectual property and any financial gains from this will go to a charity of the invertor’s choice )

And most importantly “ a ride on my Brromptonâ„¢ © makes me smile”

Any questions feel free to ask.

kind regards,

Good job and you highlight advantages that pretty much everyone here is aware of, but.. uhh.... irrelevant?

I can't help but notice that the forum's subject was "E-bike General Discussion". Possibly general discussion may be a better forum?

Now, it might be interesting if this had a hybrid possibility.

kind regards,

That's incorrect:

And a lot more expensive per mile (how far can your motorised Brompton go for under $10?).

No not jealous at all. My ebike has 80 mile range, and after about 4 hours charging, could go another 80 miles. Even at top speed I still have 50 miles of range now. This battery technology is working just fine for me. The cost of electricity for 50 miles is about 20 cents. Total costs per mile are about equal with my gasoline scooter though. About a dollar per 10 miles. My car costs about a dollar per 5 miles.

i bet it sounds like a lawnmower though, and you feel like a tit riding it.

If I were going long distance on a highway (Just about the only situation where I'd imagine I'd take advantage of 100+ mile ranges on a bicycle), I probably wouldn't care too much about noise. I'd care much more about not getting pulled over by the police.

If one needs 100+ mile range capabilities on a bicycle, but the standard distance is less than 20 or so, I think a hybrid is an excellent economic idea. You don't need the extra $800+ for batteries for long distance when you're only going to be using it for distance only everyone once in a while. A hybrid, though, seems like it'd beg for a trailer (But for long distances, who cares?).

No, actually. Unless yer making your own biofuels/whatever yer fuel is full of taxes
Can ya promise you'll never spill a drop?
Also, there is an odd odor coming from your behind.
tks

Nice setup mate suits your needs well... don't expect alot of praise from the majority
here though, don't take it personal...

This is the first fold up moped I remember seeing. How long to assemble/disassemble? Are there many places to ride it legally?

Just curious why you'd want 100 mile range on a tiny wheeled folder? Wouldn't a full suspension mountain bike suit that more?

I think the brompton is the perfect train/commuter bike though. I love watching video's of it folding, so clever!

It's mad, but I like it :D 8)

My e-Brompton is heavy enough at the front (Suzhou Bafang-powered) ... I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel with an ICE motor sitting on top of the front wheel !!

My guess is hes travelling & needs a fold up so he can jump on a train plan bus or auto mobile when the occasion arises, something that could be done on a MTB i guess but by no means as convenient...Along with the range advantage he also has the ability to tip a litre of fuel in it travel 100mile rather than wait 2-3 hours or more too charge batteries to travel 20-30 mile...

For sure he has reasons why it suits him. Like the folding feature.

I had a long conversation once with a gas powered bike enthusiast that thought I was crazy to have spent $1200 on my bike. For me, the thou I have invested in batteries is well worth it to have a silent bike with no smoke. I just use the gas engine when I really want to go faster, like 60 mph on the roketta 150. I don't disaprove of the bike, but a post like that in ebikes general is kindof a slap with a glove.

Gentlemen/ladies,

I never ment to offend anyone by posting this thread, if fact i wanted the oppersite and i wanted to share. I certain not feel i warrent such hostility and am willing to ignore such comment as "Also, there is an odd odor coming from your behind."

I said "jealous?" because i am proud of my project which is a concept many if not all of you can understand, and it was not meant to provoke.

dogman i never intended for the pervebial "slap in the face with the glove" especially to indiviuals such as youself who have been so helpful in the past.

Thanks Kim for answering the reason this is rather practical tourer it is just as i have used and intended it for. An electric verison would be if it had the same infrastructure as petrol equivalent has, which is what im trying to highlight. yes i love justins Tour but for me i will be touring in remote places potenially without electric.

Gogo attaching and reattehing the engine is rather easy just four bolts and the throllel cable a two minute job, but it still folds small without it removal. I hope the image below helps.

it is not a legal bike, but i ride resonsibly when i use it on tours. as a general rule if im riding more than 25 miles ill put the engine on.

It feels quite comfortable to ride, i can still go no hands the same amount as before.

anyway hope that it was of some help, i may refrain from being so sharing (in regards to the comments i rtecieved), however if you would like to move uit feel free.

p.s tiny wheels..

Sorry if we misunderstood, but you did brag about your gasser in ebikes general discussion. I assumed you wanted to start a fuss. Next time posting in general discussion won't be so provoking.

I'm not fundamentally against gas bikes, I own and ride one.

it would be nice to have the ability to do 100miles on a bicycle but most of my journeys are less than 5 miles. every now and then i will intentionaly "range test" my battery to check its still all there. generaly, if i want to do 100 miles its faster to fold the bike and put it in a train.

100 mile trip averaging 20mph is a 5 hour ride. Call me a wimp.. I'd def take the car on that one, sunny Sunday or not.

I'm finding that the same road I've driven 50 mph a hundred times is suddenly more interesting at 12 mph. It's weird, and I didn't expect it, but I see the landscape completely differently at 12 mph. Lots of time to not only look, but actually see everything. But nice weather is a must for a 60 mile day.
