Upgrade the new GNG 650w (chain/sprockets)

No no, sound with the original big chain !

I'm speaking of half link #25 for the first reduction to get the good tension with #25 chain/sprockets.
I have a KMC half link chain on the secondary and yes I can't remove the tensioner, need adaptable brackets, but it works fine for the moment :)

what did you change in the original chain to make you like the sound?
it doesnt sound very loud in the video.

So your bike has all the stock chains/sprockets? It sounds really quiet. Must be the camera not picking up the noise, coz the chain reduction is very loud.
Im waiting for my #25 parts too :D Im missing a part

Yeah in the video our gopro have closed box it's why we don't hear the real sound, reduction is a little loud but i like it like that^^
But yeah it's loud for street ride !

I have original gng first chain, KMC half link HL710 for second and third chain :)

Hard to find good tension even with #25 half link..

So i'm looking for #25 14/15/16 tooth sprockets, or someone that could craft this.

Thanks

8mm pilot bore hole you can drill it to your size.
Let me know if you need an Australian to post it.

Am I right that you are running a stock GNG at 100V 45A on your outfit? Not bigblock?

hey, if you can put the time and effort you can check at taobao, this could be what you are looking for:

if you want to buy, use any taobao agent, dont order directly from the site, sellers there tend to ignore foreign people...

Not that type of sprocket...looking for 14 or 15T Dual D bore type.

You'll need to buy a centre hole version and file it.

Thats the only option for a 14 or 15T ?
Id rather not file..also the stock gng sprocket is also dual bore. I dont think that type of sprocket in the link above can fit because the shaft is not long unless you take the casing apart and remove the stock gng parts

Ah get your hands dirty fella.

Haha but even if the center is filed the width of that sprocket is much more that just a dual bore 13T
The 13T dual bore are very thin and narrow sprocket

I understand. I could laser cut some. Would need to dremel the edges I suspect.

where Im staying at the moment I have no access to do work like thay. I prefer plug and play parts but I guess 13T is the largest we can go direct swapping

Hi guys
Installing my 25H chain and obviously there is no tensioner on the primary side of the gng
I dont have LR sheets yet.

Does anyone know how tight the chain should be??
Mine is a little loose bit not falling off or anything.

Should it be as tight as possible or have a little slack??

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Post a pic ;)

Hi guys
Are you guys using 1/2x1/8 or 1/2x3/32 chain for the secondary 13T stock sprocket to largest chainring??
I tried a kmc 1/2x3/32 to perhaps get a tighter and quieter fit but every second link on the kmc chain is narrower than the next link....so the chain sometimes doesnt fully seat on the 13T. The 13T sprocket teeth are thicker than the chainring teeth

I used the 1/2x1/8 bmx chain on that secondary. With a half link on it, you should be able to get proper tension.

Yes I got a half link chain but man, its hard to get KMC hollow pins out...they always damage my chain link tool
I bought like 2 already...any good recommendations?

There is hope finally for the 60v gng owners.

As most of you know, the biggest difference between GNG's 48v and 60v versions of this kit, is the primary reduction upgraded to a chain instead of the belt. And the chain upgrade is an improvement over the belt version of the 48v, but it remains problematic. Primarily being extremely loud. Why many people have attempted various modifications, the most popular one is the #25 chain upgrade, which provides somewhat of a quieter ride than the stock gng #219.

Where the 48v version of the motor comes equipped with a shaft that has the small belt pulley machined right into it. The 60v version comes with a very short shaft, with 2 flats and uses a nut to lock in place the sprocket.

The restricted amount of the shaft that extends out of the motor, the 8mm flat shaft diameter and the lip that is machined on the shaft, all contributed to significantly reduce the possible upgrades or modifications that can actually fit.

LR might just have solved this problem once again. A while ago, LR sent me a prototype upgrade part he made for the gng 650w specifically. It is a screw on small driver pulley for his "primary belt upgrade" for the gng kit. it screws right on the thread used for the nut that normally locks the sprocket and it sits on the lip that is machined on the shaft. The counter rotation of the motor to the thread keep it in place. Making a primary belt upgrade for the 60v kit, literally a bolt on.

He sent it to me quite a few weeks ago to test it out, and see if it survives my stress test at 4kw. But i've been stuck with major house renovations and moving this last month or 2. But tomorrow I'm going to be removing my 48v motor and installing my 60v with the new pulley bolt on upgrade. I'll post some pictures and results of my tests.
