I like the current rating on the first controller, and the price seems to be pretty good as well. The wiring hookup makes sense to me, as opposed to the ka-jillion wires coming out of "normal" e-bike motor controllers. Why are there seven sets of leads on other controllers, for example? What are they all for? I can only think of three-- batteries, motor, throttle. And the throttle, as I understand it, is only a fancified potentiometer, with a nice handlebar grip-mounting.

Can someone tell me which controller I should get? And explain about the 7 leads, perhaps? Thanks! :D

For what motor? The controller with the few wires is brushed DC, that's why there are few wires. A brushless controller has phase wires to activate the magnets and hall position sensor wires. They often also have brake inputs. The scooter controllers have keyswitch wires and other stuff. What kind of motor do you have?

Right-o as far as ya go, n&v. Though in this case the second controller looks to also be for a brushed motor and the "extra" wires look like those on my "EXTREME" scooters. They have key switches, two brake inputs, and (I think) five wires to the "dashboard" connector. FWIW, the dashboard has the turn signal indicators, horn, light switch, and maybe I'm leaving something out. :(

For dozentrio, if all ya want to do is control your speed and maybe a brake cutoff for the motor there are lots of simple controllers out there that are more like the first one you show. Currie has 'em for their bikes and scooters. Other sources would include:

And many others that you can find on the web

Yup! they go together! That MY1018 is quite powerful and there is a ton of information in the ES archives on many peoples attempts to make it quiet and cool! I have run them unmodified up to 42 volts but Reid and TylerDurden have done some extraordinay air cooling mods to them. If you can stand the gear noise it is a great, simple brushed motor for an e-bike. It comes on the CX450 Mongoose and I believe on the cheep I-zip.

The shenzen (e-crazyman) brushed controllers seem to be a very good deal. I'm using crystalyte brushed controller but plan to try shenzen soon.

I really like the way shenzen shows the wires and plugs, so you know what goes where (I suppose that "power lock" plug would be for a switch - possibly keyed).
