I have had a lipo pack die on me. Would it be ok to temporarily run a 12s 5ah lipo pack until I receive some new packs. I use 2.5ah between each charge powering a 1kw hub motor MTB. I don't want to risk damaging 2 of my remaining 6s packs.

I'm no LIPO expert but from what I have read that should be well above the maximum safe discharge level for that pack. Even if capacity of pack was closer to 4AH after use it would still leave you with nearly 40% remaining capacity before charging - well above a safe level. Do you use a CA or Wattmeter on the bike?

1000w sounds like a 20 amp controller, so only 4c discharge. Should be fine, but you will need to be careful not to overdischarge by accident, since you are used to lots of extra capacity.

Given your 2.5 ah discharge, I almost wonder why you bother to carry more than 5 ah. Nothing wrong with carrying 10 ah though, still pretty small and light. And then its there if you want to do a longer ride.

I usually commute to work and back approx 2.5ah per trip but figure I could charge at work and then at home. I normally only charge once for the whole trip.
Now I am too nervous to use my charger though since it has now unbalanced 2 packs beyond repair. :( It has charged up c2 down to approx. 2.5v and c3 up to 5v on 2 separate packs.

What charger? Bulk or balance charging?

I charge a single 6s 5ah pack one at a time at the moment on a 400w turnigy balance charger. I found out this morning that the volts displayed on the charger were incorrect. When measured with a meter the cells were balanced. I repowered the charger and now it is displaying the correctly measured voltages.

A cellog 8 can be a good way to keep an eye on your cells. I have found it less prone to error readings than the charger.
