Watts up external shunt

So I have a watts up coming that I planned on using for my basic bike computer needs. Is it possible to make or use the CA shunt with this in anyway? I'd like to have it in plain view near the handlebars but I don't see that being realistic if I have to run battery gauge wires up there. I don't have my unit yet soci haven't been able to open it and check things out so I wanted to ask while in waiting so I know if I need to order anything else.

I see an old topic on here discussing this but not really explaining exactly how it is done. Anybody have some experience doing this?

Somebody? Anybody?

Try to PM "dnmun"

I believe if you open the unit and send him a pic, he would probably assist you! ;)

jeremy had a thread on it. you only have to run large gauge wire on the ground since that is where the shunt is in the meter. you can run just one small wire up to the red on the wattmeter for the voltage signal and if you put a switch in that wire you can turn off the watt meter when not in use to keep it from draining the battery. i mount them on the battery, not on the handlebar. i put the ground for the meter right on the P- spot of the BMS. then i put the red wire on a small rocker switch and so when the switch is off the meter is off. then on the other side where the red wire exits is where i connect stuff like lights and DC converter so when the switch is off then the DC converter is off.
i run the large red wire from B+ directly to the controller without going close the BMS.
