🔌 New-ish
Hi guys, I'm pretty green when it comes to most of this stuff but I've been reading a lot and I find that doing instead of reading actually helps me learn and understand the technology better. Unfortunately there are no bike shops in my area that work on anything custom, builds, or really anything not off the shelf so trying to talk to someone in person isn't really an option. That said, I purchased a s73 clone that came with some sort of 5000w 20" hub motor, a Sabvoton Svmc7280m controller and 72v43ah battery (unsure of the make or much more information regarding the battery). I also have another bike that I purchased/gave inputs on the design from a manufacturer, in China, that I was hoping to potentially build a few models to iron out the kinks and then produce models for sale. That didn't happen and the manufacturer is completely silent on any after sales support but enough on that. The bike came with a 3kw motor that I fought tooth and nail with the manufacturer to upgrade to a 5kw which never happened, I was also never given the specs on the controller but I do have 2 72v batteries that came with it. The frame, l love, but the 3kw motor isn't going to cut it for what I want (I was told it was tested before it shipped @60mph but I'm calling BS on that as I can't get it to hit more than around 40mph) I mention both bikes because I want to buy a setup (motor/controller) that I could potentially use on either bike, and a setup that has great off the line speed from 0-30 say and a top speed of around ~55mph. (As a side note, going forward I'll refer to them as the blue bike (72v, SVMC7280, 5000w motor) and the yellow bike (3kw, 2 72v batteries, unknown controller)).
My plans were to initially upgrade everything on the blue bike, but I'm still trying to work out some issues with the current setup, one of those issues being that the top speed (unloaded) is only showing that it will do around 40mph loaded (i've never actually gotten it out on the road due to having to replace most of the bikes accessories). I definitely do not think the controller is setup properly and the person who put it together knows even less than me so asking for his assistance has been pointless. So I'm going to go through setting up the controller from scratch and see if that helps.
But my real point for this thread is trying to find out what the best solution would be to get near the numbers I posted earlier while spending ~$1k or less if possible. If that's not possible, what should I expect with $1k put towards a motor and controller? I've looked into QS 5kw 3.5t and 100a Sabvoton controller but after reading a few posts here and on FB, I'm starting to have doubts about what to buy. I've tried discussing this with the reps over at NB power and I guess I'm getting on their nerves and asking too many questions so they basically just give me one word answers and don't help me.
So to start, should I be looking at a 5kw motor? If so, which one (specifically which model)? And then which controller? I've heard good and bad about Sabvoton and FarDriver and based off of my questions, I'm guessing most people are probably going to suggest I go with Sabvoton as they are easier to use. Personally I don't care about PAS so FarDriver is an option.
Please help! And yes, Ive read some discussions that are very similar to this topic but sometimes products change or newer better models come out so I figured I would ask again. Thanks!
