weida

The only Weida battery I've ever seen was in a Belkin UPS someone gave me. It didn't even have it's full specified runtime the week after they bought it, with even less stuff on it than it was rated for. A couple of months later, it was even worse, and a few weeks after that when it didn't last even long enough for the autoshutdown to finish, they pulled it and gave it to me.

Lots of possible causes for the battery to be bad, including possible overcharging by the UPS, but it was actually leaky around the spade terminals, on the 12V 7Ah battery, with corrosion all around the terminal area, and up into the crimped-on connectors and leads. The battery itself was swollen.

So I don't know if it was bad because the UPS killed it, or if it was bad because of sitting in a warehouse (or store) unused for too long (inside the UPS or before it was installed in it). Either way, it was toast.

I've seen many batteries of similar size, 12V 7Ah or 12Ah, from a bunch of companies, and I don't much like most of them, but none of them were new when I got them, and I don't know their previous histories.

The only one I know the history of that I got was a Werker 12V7Ah, and it was abused as a lawn trimmer battery for a long time, then turned into my lighting battery on my bikes, and one day the bike fell over while it was charging, shorting out the charger *and* the battery, sitting that way for hours. It was still hot to the touch when I found it that way, even though it had probably been hours since it had any charge in it.

Even so, I recharged it, left it on the trickle charger for days, then used it a little, recharged, and so on, and it's now back to almost the capacity it used to have, which I consider pretty good for a battery shorted out for several hours!

The same size PowerSonic that came out of a UPS that stopped charging it, letting it get way down to maybe 3/4 voltage or less at no load, also recovered from that condition doing the same thing, and has nearly the capacity, perhaps even a bit more, than the Werker. The PS *does* source more current than the Werker, as the CCFL headlight doesn't completely black out when the incandescent turn signals blink, when using the PS. ;)
