Hi guys,

So what are the current options for controlling RC ESC's?

I was hoping to come back this year to find the RC Throttleizer still going strong with all kinds of new features and stuff.

Are they even still available?

What's new for this year?

I've got a 5k pot thumb throttle and a Turnigy 80-100-B-130kv from last years build, so I need an ESC and a way to control it.

Mostly I'd like to be able to limit current draw.

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Jay

If you are referring to Fechter's throttle interface, the costs and labor were prohibitive on those, so production numbers were low. There is one microprocessor based one that seems to be working excellent so far called the Throttlizer, by evlogic. I'm having a real hard time tracking this down right now. Perhaps Miles could find it for you. It's has amp limiting I believe and some other good features for $100.

Yes, the throttelizer is still available. It appears that the original sales post was auto-pruned by the forum, and so the current information available is on the website http://www.evlogix.com. Right now, we're developing a new product and integrating it with the throttelizer, so the current versions would need to be updated to work with it so it's not being actively pushed right now, but it's available if you need it. The new product can stand alone and do what it needs without the throttelizer, anyways, so it's not a big deal.

So far, the new features include different versions. There's now a "two current version" and a "push button" burst current version. Basically, two wires can be connected to a switch that you provide that can be used to switch between two different custom programmed current levels, or can be used to trigger burst currents.

Nice! A "pass" button, if you will... 8)

OR for us in the Colony one 'legal' setting and one 'not-so legal' setting

Would like to try one of these myself i use the Fecther throttle interface it was
rather bad at first but after Mr Fecther advised me of a few mods i could make
and i turnd the current limiting off it was 110% improvement. If i hadn't
wasted money on Infineons and got hall sensors to fit and try to get working
i would definitely buy a Throttliser to try.

Awesome!

So what is the new version all about?

I'll call mine the "GIT goin" button! :D

AJ, your Custom Cruiser build is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The evlogic throttliser is digital and fully pc programmable, the throttle interface
fechter <--(never get the damn spelling correct LoL)made is an
analogue unit and not programmable beyond a pot to set current limiting. Not
really an issue anymore as the Fechter units are no longer avaiable all been bought
and no more being made. Mr Recumpence SiR has some detailed instructions and parts
to make a DIY unit up too using servo tester.

Cheers mate...

Thanks for the info AJ. :)

I was around when the original Throttleizer was being made and sold, but I blew out my ESC before I could afford one. The Irony huh?!

I thought this thread might be good for the community as when I came back looking for what's available...I was not able to find current on for this topic.

This seems like a void in this market segment. One that needs to be filled.

I'm glad evlogix is still in the throttle interface business!!!

evlogix, I think you have a lock on this market! Take it by the horns and promote it! :D

Tell us about the new Throttleizer!!!

This is kinda out of the ordinary but...

Evlogix, did you get an email from me?

Sorry, I'm a little excited! I just took my BL mountain bike out for a ride for the first time since last summer! :D

I used one of the 90-100amp super simple ESC's that only cost 25 bucks now

I was thinking about it on my way home from work today...that maybe I could go to the auto parts store and look at their automatic reseting circuit breakers to protect the cheepo ESC from frying. I was surprised to see that they were only $2.99 each, so I bought a 20A, 30A and 40A. Well...it WORKED! :D I used a 20A circuit breaker on 6s and I got up to 28 mph! :D The circuit breaker would pop any faster than that and/or if I gave it too much throttle vs my current speed. So I had to babysit the throttle and my top speed was less than before, but the circuit breakers were $2.99 each and the ESC was $25 bucks! :D

The ESC programing was stock too, even had the break on, but I will mess with it some more and see what it can take! I was thinking about submerging the ESC in mineral oil, like people do to overclock computers, ya know? Has anyone tried that before?

Evlogix, I still want a Throttleizer though! This is just a little messin' around till I can save up for more stuff. The Throttleizer is first on my wish list this year! ;)

Can't say i have seen anyone do that, to PCs i have but not ESCs I don't really see the need to mine doesn't get hot in fact it is totally cold after a hard ride, is yours heating up alot? Perhaps a PC CPU heat sink would do the trick? Also, have you added extra caps on the input '+' & '-' wires to the ESC? This is a must to protect the esc when using them for e-bike application, both Fechters and the evlogix throttle interfaces have them built in.
