What's the best FW to use with a 9 Continent rear motor?

Hey guys I asked this question in another thread but did not get any replies so I'll ask again straight out; which freewheel works best on the rear Nine Continent kits? I have the wheel dished, shimmed and centered perfectly so I don't want to mess that up by having to install a shim on the drive side to get a freewheel to fit. I know a 5 speed FW will work perfectly but how about a 6 speed or what I'd really prefer, a 7 speed. Well actually I'd like to run with an 8 speed since that's the shifter I have but I know for a fact the 8 speed requires shimming. So how about guys, which includes the folks running the Ampedbike's rear 9C motors, which FW do you use? I need to order one soon :)

Hi Russell,
Did you see my post with pics on how I installed a 7 speed freewheel on this motor?

Ditto on the 7-speed 11-30T freewheel from ebikes.ca on an AmpedBikes 9C hubmotor, also with an inset washer/shim on the outboard side for chain clearance, etc.. The 11T rear and 42T front combination allows 23+ mph co-pedaling. The kit's original 5-speed clacker and a nearly silent 6-speed Shimano Mega-Range freewheel were serviceable too, but both started at 14T.

Thanks guys. I was hoping a 7 speed freewheel would work with no alterations since I have the wheel dished and a 2.5mm washer on the non-drive side to get the rim perfectly centered. Instead I'll be ordering a 5 speed freewheel and using it with a triple front chainring and a cheap-o thumb shifter I picked up recently for a buck and change at Nashbar...when I get around to building the bike that is.

My plans for the 9C rear motor have changed. I think I want to keep my 5 month old Kona Smoke 2-9 unchanged for now and ditto for my Bafang powered Raleigh. The wet and gritty late winter road conditions did a number on the brand new rims on the Raleigh so I'll be looking for a low priced disc brake equipped donor bike to be used with the rear 9C motor. Ampedbikes will be offering a disc upgrade for the rear motor soon so that's cool.
